I have just got my insurance renewal through from A-plan for my 330d, it's much higher than I was expecting. I have been with A-plan for years and they have always been really helpful and competetive, but the daft girl I called last week didn't seem interested.

Does anyone have any suggestions, who should I try? I didn't buy it to race around in, so £745 for a 30 year old, with 7 years NCB, 10k annual miles, business class 1, living in RG24 with 1 x SP30 seems steep to me!

I only paid around £800-900 last year on my M3 and Z4 M Coupe and that was with 2 x SP30's. Surely the 330d can't be that high?

Mark,

I had mine insured with Privilege and then ESure. Both were under £400, FC with Business use and protected NCD. I'm 34 and had 5 points at the time. Your quote from A-Plan seems steep.

Thanks Matt - will give those guys a call today! It's a real shame A-plan aren't coming up with the goods, they have always been so pleasant to deal with. Get through to a person everytime I call and really flexible, which is important as I typically change the car 2-3 times in the year.

Priv are coming in at £532 with protected NCB, legals yadda yadda and ESure are slightly higher. Much better, but I was hoping for <500 - am I dreaming?

Buying an oil burner and turning 30 in the same year has to have it's benefits! Trouble is I have yet to find any of them, the cost of diesel is daylight robbery, it's only "really" good on fuel when it's on the motorway and the insurance is almost the same as the M cars I had last year. Which just leaves cheaper road tax, pah!

At this rate I am going to sell it and buy another M3 smile

Also dont discount the Admiral group - Ive always been with them and they are dirt cheap.

FYI 29 RG code too garaged & 5yr Guaranteed NCB 15k FC Business Class 1 for your car comes to mearly £430p.a.

Admiral, Bell and Hastings all Admiral Group coming in at over £1k. Swift were pretty good at about £570, but A-Plan have managed to get it down to £565 and for that I can't be bothered to change although I know I should really!

Thanks everyone!

I do have 2 x SP30's to declare, that said one of them isn't actually on my license anymore and the other one comes off next year.

I thought turning 30 was all about cheap insurance, obviously not smile Still £565 isn't going to break the bank, just bedgrudge paying it, paid my house insurance yesterday too that was another £260! Bills bills bills, when does it end!

Go to confused.com and get a quote there... seems the best way of checking most insurance companies with just one quote. You'll also find you'll get a cheaper quote through them with say Admiral than going to Admiral direct.. very strange.

Did that, the rates published always went up by about £100 once you went onto the insurers website and added legals, protected no claims etc etc. It's good as a starting point though, it's one of my most hated things shopping around for car insurance!
