CAN ANY ONE HELP ME I RECENTLY BROUGHT A 2002 330CI CONVERTIBLE AND NO WHEN I RAINS THE WATER GOES STRAIGHT IN TO THE BOOT FILLING UP THE SPARE WHEEL DRUM.
I ALSO NOTICED THAT IF YOU PARTLY OPEN THE ROOF SO THE REAR PANNEL OPENS UP THERE WAS A COLLECTION OF WATER ON THE PASSENGER SIDE CORNER (WERE THE ROOF BRACKETS ARE)
IS THERE ANY GULLYWAYS FOR THE WATER TO ESCAPE TO RATHER THAN MY BOOT?
IT LOOKS LIKE ITS COMMING IN TO THE BOOT VIA THE LEFT HAND SIDE TOP SECTION?
PLEASE ANY ONE WITH ANYIDEAS WHOUL HUGELY BE APPRECIATED!!

I would get it checked out by a specialist. Hard to come to a conclusion from a forum post.

Could have been in an accident and poorly repaired!

Well I think you need to spend a little time looking at this, I doubt you will be able to fix it.

Until you said about the inside of the hood compartment I would have thought it was just the boot seal. However the fact it is in there suggests that there is an issue with the hood, and more to the point closing and sealing over the compartment.

With roof down you'll notice there is a slight lip that runs all the way round by the silver (or black if m sport) trim line. When the roof is up there is rubber seal on the base of the roof that pushes down and completes the seal. It could be that your roof is not coming back and making the seal, or the seal is damaged. Failing that it could be something in the rear window, but you would see that.

The other option, and more probable is that there is some damage or issue with the inset seals around the boot and closure mechanism, this is set flush with the body work, and hard to fix.

I think all you can really do is check that there is not anything obvious or silly in the way of anything and clean it and get it checked out. I had a leak in my first car and used some talc powder and sticky paper with ink on there to find a leak in the boot, worked a treat to find it with no effort and some bathroom seal cured it.

i thought that there would be some gullys in the hood compartment but i cant find them (so im asuming there isnt) im sure its gathering in the hood compartment and slowly going in to the boot i think via the fabric part (the section that pushes up if you have roof up and you push the black handle up to make boot bigger) because some times if you push the handle down to make the boot bigger you get a few drips falling down into the boot maybe the fabric part in side the hood compartment has a seal aswell havent realy had it off and checked. i know on e36 you can adjust the opening flap were the hood goes in to may be ill be lucky by getting that adjusted down tighter so it seals better?
thanks for your help and advise.

The drain holes in the hood compartment are at the front of it underneath the hood hinges and can get blocked with leaves or dirt.
They are awkward to unblock try and get in with thin wire or from underneath it comes out into the sill the sill trim needs to be off and look inside with a torch.

Is the car parked on a hill boot downwards? if so the hood compartment can fill up as the drain holes are at the front of the compartment and then pour in to the boot through the hinge holes, on some models you can retro fit additional drain holes at the rear of the compartment, if you can't you have to park the other way round smile
