Does any one still use auto white balance?

I don't shoot in raw (yet) and have been really disappointed with the white balance on my cannon 400d thus far, only problem is being my first slr i still find myself forgetting to adjust it!

I use AWB all the time. I certainly don't have time to fart about with grey cards or presetting. The Nikon D200 does a respectable job IMO and if I do want to change it - well, that's a good reason for shooting RAW smile

Yep. Don't bother with anything else (although I'll probably tweak it in Lightroom).

On my old D30, no. On the 1d yes, as it has a WB sensor. Not had any problems so far.

I forget to take my ISO off 1600 for a weekend away let alone check the white balance is okay for the conditions.

My 1DIIN has been on AWB since the day I bought it and it's never failed yet.

I must admit I've always avoided AWB, but having read this I may give it a go on the 1D, another thing I wont have to remember smile

On my D300 the AWB is fine except for street lights at night - too orange.
Even used Auto for studio sesion and it seemed ok.

yes Same here, have never used grey cards etc but generally use the presets for WB, might give AWB a shot with the D80.

Setting the white balance manually is great until you forget.

A while back I was taking some indoor shots and had set the camera to Tungsten, I looked out of the window and saw a chance to take some unusual wildlife shots. It was one of those events when I only had time to point the camera and shot away. When I looked at the shots they had a very bad blue hue, so had to reverse that all in the PC, not difficult, but takes time. If I'd tried to change the white balance back I would have missed the shots. I now leave the camera on AWB as much as possible so I don't have this problem.
