My dad needs a mobile which HAS to use active sync to sync some mail contacts and calendar entries. He doesnt want a blackberry for sending email on the go he just wants to sync his calender with a phone and read some emails.

Now am i right in thinking anything windows based can use active sync, like the phones listed below?

He hopes to purchase one at lunch today so any help before then would be THANKS

Be aware however that to calender sync using ActiveSync over a network connection (i.e. truly on the move) then you need Exchange server.

USB connection will do it when the phone is 'docked' obviously but if hes expecting to do it over the web then Exchange server is required.

Unless something major has changed in the last couple of months.

Thanks for the info Plotloss, but i think hes will only Sync changes once back in the office by docking his phone. hes not worried about updateing his exchange account while out on the move

Good luck getting it to work!! wink

Make sure they use the latest version of ActiveSync available, always plug in using the same USB connection and ensure that any Firewall software is aware of it and also up-to-date.. I had awful problems with it Syncing and then not Syncing and now seem to have no issues at all.. smile That's with a TYTN II and XP Pro.. ZoneAlarm (free) and ActiveSync 4.5.0.

Active sync over USB, if you try to tick/untick Enable advanced network functionality in USB to pc, under settings menu, it usually solves most connection/sync issues.
