Immobiliser. A mate had the same thing happen on his Silver M3 and was told the key/immobiliser sensor (dont know the technical term)wasnt working properly. I hope its not that as the cost of rectifying it was prohibitive.

Anyone else know more about this?

On my 323's i occasionally had the problem of the engine starting, dieing and then refusing to start. The first time it happned, i thought the cam chain had broke, as the engine was really spinning over quickly. Turned out to be an ECU problem and the cure was to keep foot on the gas and keep turning it over till it finally caught. Wierdly, this only ever happend whilst the car was outside the house, and particularly if i had previosly moved the car about 10 feet up the drive and turned it off again. Anyone else had this problem?

Hi,just 5 days after having bought my 96 evo it refused to turn over.At the same time the on board computer and interior temperature module did not work.Checked the fuses and found the immobiliser fuse blown, put a new fuse in and she started only to blow fuse again.Took it to a local auto leccy and they found wires behind dash had worked loose ( possible to change of radio unit) and caused a short.Car sorted now.Hope you sort yours out, fantastic motors.
