I've been wearing my new 1 piece leathers around the house, whilst I've been watching TV and the like. I reckon I've probably worn them like this for around 2 hours.

How long is it until your average pair of leathers are "broken in" and start to give? Mine are part cowhide, part kangaroo hide.

Cheers,

S

Much longer than that, unfortunately.

Mine took about 4 weeks, with wearing and riding nearly every day.

When i got my BKS, it was about 100 hrs. But with the modern suits being made of kangaroo and softer cuts of the hide they should take a lot less than what mine did.
You hear a lot of people saying that the leather stretchs, it doesn't it just becomes more supple. A bit like when you let a chamoix leather dry out then when next used it becomes all nice and soft again.
The only time they wont break-in is if they are too small for you.
I would say that after about 20 hrs they should be fitting great and starting to feel as a second skin should.

ride in the rain, it helps the leather soften up.

+1 nice heavy soaking (and dont be a girl and stop riding then). Allow to dry naturally (no radiators) then feed the leather with the product of your choice - I vary between an annual neatsfoot oil and an every so often leather food. Soft as a babys bum, and still tarmac resistant.

Have a nice, relaxing shower in them. Don't use shower gel.

Thanks all - I shall wear them more around the house and get out on them as much as I can.

They are a great fit, so should break in. Useful to know roughly when I should see a difference and if it rains a bit at somepoint, I'll get out in them.
