ITVF1 said:
Michelin teams may boycott the Italian GP if the tyre regulations are changed, it has been claimed.

Michelin competitions boss Pierre Dupasquier suggested McLaren and Williams may refuse to compete at Monza if the FIA presses ahead with plans to change the way tyre tread depths are measured.

The treads are currently scrutineered before the race only but the FIA circulated a letter to teams last week informing them that they plan to take measurements after the race too.

This has infuriated Michelin.

Dupasquier told the Daily Telegraph: "It is possible that the five teams using Michelin tyres will not turn up in Monza.

"Our partners would have to spend a lot of money without any guarantee that they would not be disqualified. It is up to them to decide."

The FIA's move has been prompted by suspicions that Michelin tyres conform to the 270mm maximum tread width when new but, during the race, the area in contact with the track increases.

Michelin have denied any wrongdoing.

Wonder how that works then? Grooves with cunningly angled walls? Any change to the regulations should wait until next season, IMHO. To do it now would only provoke the folks who think it's all run in Ferrari's favour

It would explain how the Michelin shod boys aren't particulary fast for a few laps then seem to have the edge...

It would be daft to re-interpret the rules in the middle of a season as well. As I say, I think Ferrari/Bridgestone are worried and putting pressure on Bernie money-grabbing-greedy Ecclestone.
