Quick question, when is the D3 touring due for release? I heard it's Nov time. I'd like to know when the final specifications etc will be released. I wonder when the first orders will be taking.

Then again, I am thinking in Nov when the facelift is due a new pre facelift 330d could be available at fantastic prices.

First Saloon D3 Bi Turbo cars due to appear at dealers mid September, I spoke to Sytners about the touring release date and was told late 2008/early 2009. You can now spec a D3 with anything you like that is available on the BMW options list, expect standard Touring prices to be around £33000:00.

Personally, I don`t think its such a good deal anymore, the original D3 saloon was an absolute steel at £26950:00 and it is worth every penny and a lot more! Apparently its all down to the poor exchange rate of the euro, just glad I got mine when I did! thumbup

I agree, you can get a 335d for the same price with some discount. Alpinas are nice but are they that nice?

Any details on colours etc? Graphite grey Alpine would look awesome.

Hmmmm £33k doesn't make financial sense, although it does come with Xenon's etc. I suspect a pre facelift 330d will be available for £30k new if they have any stock left once the facelift model is launched. Although Alpina's tend to hold their value pretty well, right?

does it have to be a brand new car? Why not buy 1 year old and save a good £10k?

No, it doesn't. But I've never had a brand new car before. I am very fussy with specifications so it would be nice to have the perfect car. But I see your point, I found a perfect 335i coupe for just over 25k...... excellent buy and can spend the extra money on fuel and a DMS remap smile

I came EVER so close to buying a 123d M Sport 5 door with a lot of spec but then last minute stopped and realised that the depn + financing what it would really cost me PCM as a salary reduction, result I decided to keep my 12 year old Fiat coupe which is cheap as chips to run & depn is tiny now after 5 years of ownership.

Still Once the mortgage is cleared I would really like to own a brand new car from new - Maybe a Kia Ceed and have total piece of mind for 7 years & then buy a track Sl&g for a £1k.

Alpina's hold their value well until they drop off the radar of Sytners, at which point they correct sharply. The early B5 cars are starting to suffer this.

However, despite the high asking price for AUC, trying to actually sell one privately is both a complete pain, and non-Sytner dealers tend to stay away from them, so if you get bored after six/twelve months, be prepared for a nasty shock.

At £33K, D3 Bi-Turbo doesn't make any sense at all - but then no Alpina makes sense in purely financial terms. New or used, you're paying a premium for the exclusivity and cachet of the brand, effectively buying into the Alpina thing. I also suspect the D3 BT pricing has been set £5K higher than the preceeding model partly in order to keep the residuals of the D3 healthy - especially as Sytners have a virtual monopoly on used examples.

The single turbo D3 is almost starting to look like a good buy, but then compare it with a similar age 325d or 330d M-Sport with all the toys, and it suddenly looks like a complete rip-off, but, you need to own an Alpina for a period of time to really get it.

My own recommendation is try an early D3 - now down at the 20K mark - and see if you get on with the way it behaves in terms of suspension, and also in terms of cleaning those bloody wheels hehe before coughing up for a D3 Bi-Turbo.

The problem I have with it is you can buy a nice, low mileage, 57 plate 335d sport touring with all the toys including nav, xenons, bluetooth and leather for under £30k.
Spec the D3 BT up to the same spec and it will cost you £40k.

Also you can buy a brand new 335d se through a broker with the same spec as the D3 for around £500 more.
