My S2 has developed a strange vibration, noticable from 2500 rpm when warm, there is a noise similar to a wheel bearing whine, but constant regardless of road speed or engine speed. It is still there when the clutch is engaged/ disengaged so I have disregarded
gearbox. It is noticable when stationary. I have also recently replaced the engine mountings, has anyone any idea where to look ? help, please.

take a look and make sure your engine mounts have not come loose

Hi - Welcome to PH
Have you had the camchain/tensioner checked? It can be a problem in the S2/968 engine. The trouble is Porsche didn't include it as part of the servicing schedule so it can become worn possibly resulting in a chain faliure - very expensive!
How about the cam and balance belts? Have they been replaced/retensioned recently? If the balance belt slips it can allow the balance shafts to run out of synch.

Cam chain tensioner checked and seems OK, Belts at the front are a possiblity, but am wondering if the nearside engine mount could be the problem, is there any obvious way of checking this ?

The engine mount on the exhaust side of the engine bay is known to go.

It could be a balance belt snapped, but I would expect you to feel a bit more of a lumpy idle than before.
