Hi all,

I'm going to Munich soon for the Beer festival, and I want to go to Stuttgart to see Porsche as well.

-Is it easy to get to (I shall probably be travelling by train rather then car)

-Will I be able to see anything?

-Is there a good place to see....er...interesting cars??

-As I'm staying the night, is there any good Bars around?

Many thanks

Will

Have been to Stuttgart (although not the factory) and it`s....a shithole!.

Easy to get to from Munich by Autobahn - haven`t a scooby about trains.

Sorry, not much help then...

Been to the factory - very good tour offered provided you book in advance. You have either to go to their website and send an email to the factory or go through a Porsche dealer - in either case, they give you a phone number and you phone a very nice lady (who speaks better English than most of us). She will advise if there is a space for you on the tour.

If she says there isn't, turn up at the museum (at the factory too) at 9:45am and wait to see if someone fails to turn up. On our tour, the supposed max number of 12 turned into nearer 30 so you should be ok.

Stuttgart itself is not a great town however.

Depending on your age and interest in WWII, you might want to visit the memorial park at Dachau near Munich - very affecting if you have read the history.

Porsche tour is well worth doing,,,but definitely easier to get on the Merc tour if that fails..
Suprisingly Stuttgart is a disappointment..There are some good traditional restaurants serving improbably large portion of pork and beers in Stein that you can hardly lift, possibly the most unnatractive women in Stuttgart I have ever spent time with,,as it were,,,that was definitely time rather than money!

Stuttgart? Not worth a detour, unless you can book on a factory tour and spend a few minutes at the museum.

If you do go that way, visit the Teknik Museum at Sinsheim -the most eclectic collection of cars (including some of von Huckstein's Porkers), planes, tanks, lorries, rockets, boats I've ever seen.

They have just taken delivery of a French Concorde to go with their Russian Concordski.

That IS worth a detour!!
