Hi All,

I would like to get into learning how to map/tune tune engines via programmable ignitions (e.g. Motec, autronics, DTA etc), build looms etc.

Are there any tuners here? how did you get into it? Are there any books you would recommend to get started?

Thanks

I'm not a professional tuner but if this interests you then I suggest the first step would be to actually do it for yourself.

There's a great document on the emerald website about all of the components that go into a full ems, well worth reading..

7 pds on amazon 'advanced engine tuning' by greg banish. IIRC.

Like green says most are self taught. if you get something to mess with your stock ecu you can always flash back to stock if you make some mistakes.

you would have to have an iq of 4 to cause any damage.

I'm starting off with an ECU that self-maps for fuel. (properly, not suggestively like all the others.) it makes it SO much easier and basically we use det cans to set ignition....setting it conservatively across the board and increasing as we go across load points. Not having to worry about fuelling is a big plus for a learner.

Like others have said - I would recomend installing your own ..

There is lots that can be learn from reading useful internet sites such as this :

http://www.emeraldm3d.com/em_k3.html

http://www.m-techautomotive.co.uk/ecu/motec_glossa...

http://www.megamanual.com/index.html

You could also buy the Haynes EFI book written by Dave Walker of Emerald - it's a good read and introduces the basics.

There are commercial courses but these probably cost £300 per day for a 5 day course.

I think Vixpy did one a while back from memory .. with DTA ??
