Mondeo airbag systems

Hi all,
I recently bought a 2004 Mondeo TDCI that shows fault code for nearside curtain airbag. On closer inspection I find the airbag has been triggered & deployed then cut back & hidden behind the trim, reasons unknown as there is no noticeable body damage.
Can I replace the airbag unit with another from a 2001 car? Do I have to have the airbag ECU re-set or will it recognise the new airbag unit & be happy?
Alternatively is there a way of turning off the side airbags & re-setting the warning light?

I wouldn't go near airbag units mate... it's just not worth risking your fingers with the explosive charges OR risking your life in an accident if you've fitted your own airbags.

Have you been for a quote at a Ford main Dealer? It might not be as expensive as you think
