WooHoo - New Car - M5 E34 - And problem so PLEASE help!
Discussion
This morning, felt like i'd won the lottery.....this evening, feel like i've spent the lot and got nothing to show for it........
Bought a "bargain" of an E34 with a few things that need sorting, one of which is an electrical gremlin that eats the car's battery I am told. The mile counter & window switches stay live (occas do go off), and the reason I mention this is because it possibly has something to do with my problem - The immobiliser. For love nor money the immobiliser won't disengage, it's a round touch too thing next to the foglight switch, which the previous owner says was BMW installed. Now coud it be the battery has lost it's voltage and therefore is playing up....? Sounds strange to me but a search on google does point to this problem. Also, for those in the know, there's a switch under the rear bench attached to the batt cover, again prev owner tells me it immobilizes the car, I assume just pressing it down will work fine?
Any help, greatly appreciated. And i'm off to find my BMW man's number - anyone know him, he's from Yorkley in Glos!

Simple fact is, get rid of any 'old factory fitted security systems' and buy a decent alarm and immobiliser. best investment possible to stop your new toy vanishing, and will keep your battery in better shape!
In that case I need to find someone who will disable the factory system...which could take some doing!Cheers bell

Where are you based?
I'm in Forest of Dean, in Gloucestershire. Market Drayton is where I came from....I know there was a guy who lives in Yorkley, who is pretty "hot" with BMW's, but his PM has gone from my inbox and i've lost his number (t was over 18 months ago we last spoke). Not sure he knew much about the elcetrics though, as hood's were his forte if I remember correctly.
Cheers for the replies,
Craig

Any decent auto electrician or car audio / security firm will be able to remove the old system which is pretty simple. The just get an immobiliser and catagory 1 alarm installed. There must be a decent specialist in Gloucester.
Yes, i'm sure there'll be someone who is good, but until I find them i'm not letting anyone near it....Cheers Bell.Try the guys at Steve Rowley 01242 222232, in Cheltenham who know a bit about BMW's.
These guys may also be worth talking to as a second choice.

Will look out for you in the Forest then? Craig
I believe there is a BMW specialist in Lydney, but for the life of me can't remember their name or location.
FWIW I have my car looked after the guys in Eastern Avenue as mentioned above they know their stuff.

I think I visited the BMW specialists mentioned above about the Vanos on my old M3, aren't they somewhere near screwfix? I have got an urgent job on my M5 at the moment, need to change the belts as the PS one keeps slipping causing it to judder badly There is a few things to sort but that immobilizer issue hasn't raised it's head again thank god!
Still, there's plenty to do without that. have done about 25 miles in it since i've had it, so much nicer than the M3 I had.
Located in Coleford.
Glos Independent BMW Specs are right behind the Screwfix outlet, you have to turn right to get in to Screwfix, carry on past Screwfix and they are the next turning on the right.
Pop across to http://forum.bmw5.co.uk/, one of the mods on there (Robbo) has an E34 M5, great font of knowledge..
