Sorry to try your patience guys.

There is a rather nice blue 911 turbo at 911 vrigin.com at around £20k
looking at the pictures it has race style seats and harnes.
Question is does that mean there will be no back seats?

need back seats to be able to ferry kids around ocasionaly
This is the main reason I am tinkering with the idea of a 911.
Anyone know anything about this particular car?

All standard turbo's would have had rear seats to begin with but that car is obviously extensively modified so they could have been ripped out and obviously you can't tell from the pics (or you wouldn't be asking the question ). If they are still there they're going to be rendered unusable by those fixed buckets and harnesses I reckon.

Don't know that specific car but if I'm not mistaken it's a 930 dressed up as a 965. If it were my money (which of course it's not ) I'd get a mint bog standard 3.3 930, get the kids in and out the back easily, and have change left to do any little jobs that crop up. But then I'm biased!

Thanks chris,

I was a bit unsure about this car as the price is for a 930 but the bumper isnt right.
With my limited knowlage a 930 should have a black bit on the edges of the bumper(thats how I have been trying to tell them apart anyway)

However it does look nice very nice

last night I actualy stayed up all night trying to decide what to do!
I'm having a bit of a crisis at the moment. Was too scared to phone them up and ask about it cos if I do that i will probably buy it.

the £20k isnt the problem however running the car afterwoods probably would be. I am worried that the car would overtake my standard of living.
i,e cant go out/buy this/do a track day on the bike etc. As there is a servce coming up on the car

My head says dont get one but my heart says do it.

Pesty, remember you are a long time dead!! Also once you own a 911 you automatically become a more interesting people wifes being the only exclusion to this fact.

My suggestion is to have a look at lots of different cars before making your mind up - this in itself can be fun. I looked at a couple in 911virgin and discounted them both before I bought (privately) and got a much better car at less money.

Hoping you find inner peace.

Now you've gone and done it havnt you you've used the long time dead argument. you sound like me talking to my missus.

I think this potential Porsche buyer just isnt ready yet!
I have subscribed to GT purley Porsche and 911 & Porsche world also I have ordered the Paul Fere book form amazon which is winging its way here as I am typeing.
Running cost's are the only things holding me back at the moment once I have done more research we will see what happens.

Another thing that is stopping this usualy impulsve buyer is that I really want a 993 but I definately cant afford one of those(dont want LHD). So if I buy a 964/930 I still probably would not be happy.

Or would I ? I just dont know. I dont know anyone who has ever owned a Porsche. Never even sat in one.

Pesty, why dont you just play safe! Ignore the potential running costs of a Turbo and just get into Porsche ownership in a nice and easy way...

Get yourself areally good 3.2 Carerra Coupe about 1989.

Buy the best one possible, with a FPSH in a good colour, get it checked out properly, pay about £14-15Kfor it. Get it on a classic insurance policy (perhaps with restricted milage) and enjoy Porsche ownership, stage by stage.

The dosh that you will save on buying and running it, will buy you a runabout to leave in pub car parks and Tesco`s, when you dont want to use the Porsche.

Dont spend all your budget at the start and end up with a shed, that you cant afford to keep and end up selling it back to Henry for £14K!

Calm down, get a grip on yourself and leave your money in a safe place for a moment before someone sells you a car !
You would really benefit from popping down to a local Porsche Club GB meeting - dont have to be a member, lots of nice people that can let you sit in one, loads of free advice, plenty of older cars, usually meet at pubs with big car parks on a monthly basis. Unfortunately their website www.porscheclubgb.com is a bit of a members only deal but post your location here and someone can advise you.

Or you can always go for one of the "lesser" Porsches (can I say that here?). You could pick up a good 944 or 968, and have the balance of your £20k for petrol, servicing and track day fees

Build your way up the range gradually. You'll have fun doing it, and you'll learn a lot about what you like and don't like in the process.

I think Ford and Citroen are doing interest free credit on some of their base model cars. That would allow you to open a post office account with the money saved. You could also consider Weekend / evening work. This would also boost your savings.

Actually the car in question is quite an interesting machine. Not a particularly good example of level headed ownership given the bloke buried just under 90k in creating his ideal Porsche. The result is a bit special though. It`s for someone who doesn`t necessarily want to go the conventional route with their 20k. It`s a bit like someone buying a house with £200k`s worth of bathroom, kitchen, fitness room, TV, HiFi, designer decor and garden then paying 20k more than next door`s unmodernised house.

Not to be confused with polished poo - a tired old 1978 banger dressed up with some plastic total cost £1,500, a six pack of Tennants and two donner kebabs!

(forgive the icon - new to this and just wanted to see what happens if I clicked one !).

My old car. Not a ideal first porsche but amazing car. Was gutted to sell but too many cars at moment and something had to go!!
Email me if you have any questions about car.
FYG car is 1978 turbo but massively modified. Running about 400bhp with lightweight bodywork. Great fast road/ track car but bit much for everyday use.

That sounds like a bit of a beastie

My suggestion about going for something cheaper was just that IMHO, it's better to have a slightly cheaper car that you can afford to drive, rather than a better one that sits in the garage all the time, because you can't afford the running costs. Of course, you're a long time dead, as they say

Thanks guys,

oldtimer good adea about the Porcshe club. I am located in Telford. Will look into going along to a meet.

I drive to 70 miles a day so would use my current car*(use that term losely+cant even bring myself to tell you what it is) for the drive to work.

So the car would have to be a scond car which my partner would have to drive. She didnt like the scooby! so how she would have been in that I cant imagine

As i find it extremely hard to regulate my right foot where conditions allow the petrol bill alone would be prohibabative. I work shifts so at 5am there is nothing else around on nice roads I know well.

Now I have calmed down a bit I'm going to look around. I may wait till next year and stick to what I know.

All this talk of engine re builds is scarey if your on a tight budget.

Having said that my heart sinks every time I walk out of the door and look at the POS thats in my drive

My copy of 911 & Porsche world has just landed so I will probably find something else to get excited about and the process will start all over again

Thanks again for your input all.
