Importing a Corvette from Germany

I know some of you guys have done this - how easy is it to bring a Corvette from Germany. What I've managed to find out so far is that the car needs to be "de-registered" in Germany, you need a German registration document and TUV test, and need to SVA the car in the UK.
Can it be assumed that a German Corvette sold new as a "euro" car will probably have no problems at a UK SVA.
Also what about getting the car insured when driving it back across Europe?
DVLA's website has some info though some of their links don't work. Just about to email them to let them know...

Don't see why there should be any significant difficulties bringing a genuine "Euro" car back to UK although you will need to have the right documents with it. Your best bet is to get in touch with a major local DVLA office (eg Portsmouth) where they know all the up to date requirements inside out and back to front. Definitely you should set up proper insurance in advance and you will need enough info about the car to identify it for the insurer (ie VIN number).

If the Corvette is a genuine European spec car, then it is "European"!! We are part of Europe!!
Therefore you should not need to get anything done to the car except an MOT if it is more than 3 years old.
If you are planning on bringing over an old one i.e. more than 10 years old, you wouldn't need the SVA anyway.
A mate of mine bought a brand new Camaro from a dealer in Belgium a few years ago and all he needed was to sort out the VAT. You won't even have this hassle as the car won't attract VAT as it will already have been paid in the EEC. Regarding the duty, check with HM Customs to see if you have to pay duty on an import from Europe, I suspect not, but if you do, it will 10% of the purchase price.

I bought my zr1 from germany,drove it back to england.Registered the car in reading,they now charge £25 pounds at the same time you have to show them the new british mot + insurance and have to buy the road tax there and then,in my case a week later they {dvla} sent a local policeman to look the car over he didn't seem to know what he was looking for, a week after i received the no plate.If you buy second hand there is nothing to pay,only if the vehicle is new or less than six months old.Inform your insurance company,give them the vin no to insure the car,then when you register the car you give them the new reg no.
