Andy and Gary commit to Porsche Cup in 2004

Andy and Gary Britnell have confirmed that they are to continue contesting the Porsche Michelin Carrera Cup GB in 2004 but with a newly formed team. The brothers will be run by former Group N racer and 1998 Fast Ford champion David Bartrum under the banner of "Motorbase Performance".

The three have known each other for many years with David sharing the two driver races in the 1995 Production Car series in a pair of Escort Cosworths. Some memorable race victories helped the brothers to finish first and second in that year’s championship.

"We have had a fantastic year in 2003 with VLR, and are under no illusions of the standard that Vic (Lee) has set us to follow ," says Andy. "But the chance to be part of a Kent-based motorsport team is something that Gary and I have aspired to for some time and David has always been keen to be part of such a plan. The opportunity and timing just happens to be right. The Carrera Cup is an excellent championship and has attracted some real talent, both young and old! We hope to build on the lessons learnt in 2003 and really start making a regular nuisance of ourselves at the front! "

The team, which will be joined by long time sponsors SAS International, hopes to be ready for some winter testing early in the New Year. A formal launch of the new team is planned in the near future, details of which will be announced shortly.
