Beejive is a good instant messenger app, also if you subscribe to any feeds Pro RSS is good. Flashlight is useful, and get DecibelMeter for pre-track noise tests at home. MotionX GPS is a pretty good app too. iShoot is a cool tank battle game, and the X-plane games are pretty good too. Also the Bloomberg app is much better than the standard stocks one as it has news feeds and currency rates. That's about all I can remember.

Turn by turn satnav should be supported by the next software update (2.3?).

V3.0 actually.. But yes, no sat nav type apps currently available. But the included map app is still very useful.

Theres been a few iphone/ipod touch app threads, but I never have any luck with the bloody search function on this site!

Dynolicious.. A few pistonheaders have this. Its a car performance measuring tool, giving bhp and quarter mile times etc Quite accurate but is highly dependant on an accurate weight input first. Still, well worth checking out.
X-plane. Theres several different versions of these. Its a great flight sim.
Trism. A very addictive puzzle game.
ColorSplash. Nifty photo effects app.
Units. Very useful units converter. Currency, temperature, speed, time and pressure etc etc.
SpeedTest. This comes from the bandwidth testing site speedtest.net Test your connection speed either via 3G or Wifi etc.
Shazam. Damn clever app! Not sure what a tune is? It listens, and tells you what it is. And if you want, takes you to the iTunes store so you can buy it.
iPint. Very silly app! But no matter what nifty apps I show people, they only seem to be impressed by iPint. You have to see that for yourself hehe

Theres tons more.. But thats a few to check out to begin with smile

Another vote for Bloomberg, if you're remotely interested in finance (or it's your job...) then it's a superb implementation. I probably spend as much time in the Bloomberg app as I do with email.

LD1racing - you mention a decibel meter app - is this anywhere near accurate, i.e. usable? Have you compared it to a normal noise meter?

X-Plane runs right at the ragged edge of RAM on the iPhone - it's bloody impressive but crashes more often than not. If you're going to show off how cool the iPhone is by running X-Plane, reboot it first to clear out the RAM... nothing less cool than it crashing repeatedly when a sceptical Windows Mobile user looks on laughing smile

As to other apps, functional stuff like Converter (comprehensive units converter), MyRail (hooks into national rail timetables), London City (tube map), Flashlight (already mentioned, but mine is the Cydia version with no limit on brightness), Terminal (only for hackers really), a load of CLI stuff and Bejeweled (still a fun game even now) is really all I tend to use. Cydia is a Debian-repository-based installer that gets installed when you jailbreak the phone. Only necessary if you want full control over the phone, or want to hack things.

For 'expensive' paid apps, I've got the Ultralingua french and spanish translation dictionaries, same app but different dictionaries, and it's a good app at that. Used to use Ultralingua on the Palm and the iPhone version is similarly good smile

Unfortunatley I haven't had the phone that long and not yet tested it alongside a 'real' noise meter.

I have 7 pages odd, but the ones that stand out as being really good or really useful:

Movies (or flixster?) A really useful and very polished app - cinema times, movie ratings, shows local cinemas and shows you trailers

AroundMe - Local services based on your current gps position, nearest pubs, banks and such like, very simple

Remote - Super cool app that allows you full control of your itunes library on the pc, from your phone, like a full on remote control, Great if you use your computer as a sound system like myself!

Take me to my car - Stick a peg in where you have parked, and navigate back to it, ideal for not having to remember where you parked at the NEC!

iTalk - Voice recording simple but useful

as for games, I LOVE iShoot, its so simple yet fantastically addictive!

I am very addicted to chess with friends - a bit like the old school postal chess, you have one week to make a move, but I tend to check for moves every hour or so!

Not virgin I'm afraid. listings yes, recording setup no.

Measures is the best converter I've found.

Weather Pro is worth a couple of quid too.

My favourite is an MPG calculator called AccuFuel. Simply input miles, litres of fuel, price (if you want to), and it calculates current and average MPGs, with little graphs and stuff. Very east to input when you're standing at the pump, and easy to switch between my 3 cars...
