I've got another HDD I have tried putting in my desktop machine. It connects fine, spins up OK, windows detects it as new hardware and identifies it alright, but there's no increase in capacity when I go to my computer/C:/properties.

I think I've jumpered it OK, original as master, new one as slave, although I'm not 100% on this as there are loads of options on the original compared to the new one.

Any thoughts? Do I need to do something in the F2 boot setup?

Any help gratefully recieved!

It won't increase the capacity of your C: drive - it will have a new drive letter assigned to it

(assuming Windows)

right click on My Computer

> Manage

From the Computer Management

> Select Disk Management

Do you see more than one hard disk listed ?

You will also no get more capacity on c: - if you can see the disk in the disk management - right click (be sure its the new one) and click format - follow through the menu to format and select a drive letter - you should then be able to use the new disk as additional space - albeit on a different drive letter.

You wont see any change in the C: drive, adding a new HDD increases the overall capacity but does it by adding a new drive letter. SO look for a D: drive or something further up the alphabet if you have CD/DVD drives already occupying that letter.

Nice one guys, thanks for the advice, all installed and working!

Just one thing, what is the name of the proper metal cage thing I need to attach the HDD securley to the inside of my PC...my current cable tie arrangement is a bit Heath Robinson!
