Chaps, as part of my new insurance renewal i'm required to evidence the alarm and immobilzer that's fitted to the car. The car is a 2001 model and i need to know how to prove this as it was fitted in the Factory-anyone had the same request and if so how did you get around it or prove it? What make and model is tha alarm etc? Thanks in advance.

Insurance brokers/companys have all this information if they could just be bothered to get of their fat ar5ses and look!

The amount of times customers come in requesting such information when we know the manufacturers have furnished Insurance companys with this information because when they 'grouped' the vehicle in the first place they took the security system in to account.

Insurance companies... so smart when they want to be, but so dumb if it involves them doing some work to help you save some money!

Alistair,

This is a common request from insurance companies with the 3200GT as the factory fitted alarm is an Itallian make that is 'equivalent' to thatcham standards, but is not technically certified (or something like that....)

I got round this by getting my dealer to fax the alarm details(below) to the insurance company on the dealership headed paper - this seemed to satisfy them perfectly.

For my car (MY02) the alarm is manufactured by META and the model number is M9-26/98MT. I assume it would be the same on a 01 car. Might be worth ringing a dealer to check.

Hope this is useful,
Rich

sorry to change subject but Rich, did you ever get a definitive answer to which oil to use in the absence of being able to source Selenia ?

I found that my local Alfa garage sold it, as does Fiat! From memory it was more expensive than Mobile 1!!!

My insurer required a Tracker and so did not question the alarm/immob.

The current Thatcham certified list can be found here (although as already mentioned it does not contain Maserati).

www.thatcham.org/resources/pdfs/compliance.pdf (410kb).

I insured my 01Y 3200 through AON who gave me the best price and didnt question the alarm, they did not require tacker and the insurance cost about £1800pa.

I thought that was good but my Ferri Dino which cost twice as much is only £425.00 to insure.

Three Facts:

1. The maserati alarm is NOT thatcham certified.
2. The maserati alarm is built and installed etc TO thatcham cat 1 standards
3. Maserati dealers can provide documentation (several pages) to support and prove point 2.

Check your insurance certificate - it will not necessaryily state thatcham cat 1 - only the call center muppets will. It will probably say somehting like "meeting our security requriements".

You'll need to get the docs from a masser dealer, get them faxed/posted to the insurance bods, then speak to someone slightly higher than a headset gimp who can actually read, interrpret and make decisions for the insurance company. Then get them to post you a letter to confirm their acceptance of security device conforming to their standards.

Hope that helps

Just done it all 3 weeks back - worth it since the cars the mutts nutts.

According to the engineers at Maranello, senia racing oil 10W/40 or failing that standard shell 10W/40 is fine.

Alastair, if that's with no tracker then it is a good quote. I'm a fair bit older than you and would have happily paid that with full NCD!

Blimey this insurance is a bit high, I just purchased a 3200 and got it insured for £1249 0% NCD with AXA via direct choice, but had to fit a tracker horizion (0 NCD 'cos I am also a Company Car driver .. and drive like one at roundabouts).
