What is the most power you can get out of a 944s2 without speending massive amounts, say 1-2K. Just want a little bit more.

Get a K&N air filter, lol

Actually, an exhaust system "may" be your best bet, as the S2 is already hot rodded for you by Porsche. It's the near zenith of the model line, save for the vario cam 968, but by the time they started building the S2 they had pretty well ironed out all of the details.

IMHO you won't be trumping Porsche with a K&N or a chip, I doubt if either will do anything for you.

Since Porsche didn't skimp on the air filter box size or the chip, I doubt if they skimped too much on the exhaust system. I would, however, think a set of headers and performance exhaust would give you more than anything else of comparable cost.

My stock 1990 S2 runs like a bear, and I understand they will dyno higher than the factory claim. I have yet to verify which one is actually the faster, the S2 or my 928S 5-speed. They will both reach 100 from a standstill at the same general benchmark, and I'd need instrumentation to make the call.

I drove the S2 to work today. What a glorious machine. Light in weight, and really all the power you can use on the streets. It wanted to break the rear end loose at full power, because it was wet today and I never could really hook up full power. In third gear, as you know, it will pull like a train, and at 5,000 rpm what a beautiful howl.

You might consider leaving well enough alone.

Decat if it has one or straight through front silencer, K&N and a remap will see it with at least 225bhp; in other words the same job that we do on the 993VR to give it 309bhp from 282 stock.
My hunch is that the headers will not make a lot, I have yet to see even a full race engine gain more than 10bhp from the exhaust manifolds although they will probably gain torque if designed correctly. May be worth a try if anyone makes them for the RHD car, but don't ask me to do them, once was enough on a 924S speed championship car, they took 5 days to fabricate!

I have the k&N on, no cat, going for a stainless exhaust will get it "chipped" and then see. Can anyone recommend a good chip? Thanks

Chips are chips are chips. Unless they're made by McCains in which case they come crinkly, southern fried etc.

The important thing is the mapping and the care and talent of the person mapping it. In the South I suppose JZ Machtech's Roock chip tuning comes highly respected, and 9M has some happy punters in the world of whippets and chips/gravy combos.

My whippets currently enjoy the subtleties of Bicester's AMD mapping when they ride in the back, but maybe NeinMeister will give me extra discount in order to liberate the 19 or so extra horses he has managed to tease out the venerable VRam....

Domster, your perception of whippets as a Northern artefact is misplaced. As a committee member of The Whippet Club, I must formally castigate you! You can have meat pies tho'.

Cheers, Maurice

LOL - I apologise for being Whippetist

Yes, AmD are another outfit well known for chip related tuning. Scott is building an Ultima as well, so they must have taste

I was at this day (I live nearby) and Wayne remapped two S2's and a 2.5, all three were very happy with the results, with the best coming from an S2 with a decatted exhaust and a stainless steel airfilter from Essential Styling. This car recorded 200bhp at the wheels afterwards, so depending whatever 'fudge factor' you use it will be around 230-235 at the crank.

The owner reported a world of difference because Wayne also found a number of unknown problems with the car beforehand - the cambelt tensioner was loose , the throttle cable was not tight enough to reach full throttle, and the throttle position sensor was broken, so this car was not achieving anywhere near its standard power before Wayne started.

A proper session on a rolling road will always be better than simply plugging in a chip. Cost will obviously be more I think they paid around £300 for a group discount
