I love 1 and 5, but then I'm really into blown photos at the moment. I'm sure others will hate them.

Number 2 looks like good strobist, any details?

I think the PP in 6 is a little OTT on the headlights. It looks like it's wearing mascara.

3&4 look wrong to me as the bike yokes are cranked over, but again that's personal preference.

A good batch. I hope you had fun.

Thanks for the crit Jon,

1 & 5 seem to get mixed receptions, I'm into the whole high-key thing at the mo as well.

What is strobist?

The effect is from shooting a low aperture, no photoshop on this pic at all.

What are Yokes? (this is the problem with shooting something you know nothing about I guess smile )

Had lots of fun, certainly a bit different to the norm.

Strobist is off camera flash. Number 2 looked like there was a flash, possibly with a modifier (softener) camera left.

The bikes handle bars are at full lock making the front wheel look almost buckled. As I said, personal preference, I much prefer bikes sitting with the front and rear wheels aligned.

I thought Strobist was the name of a website regarding off-camera flash? Not a photography application? Sorry, I hate all this 'strobist' stuff, it's off camera flash/external lighting. tongue out

The shot was lit with 2x Vivitar 285's, no modifiers or diffusers, just bare flash. It wouldn't work on a gloss black surface but as the bike has a matte finish, it looks really smooth, I was pleased when I spotted it was matte rather than gloss!

I see what you mean about the yoke now, it's just something that's come across from my car photography I guess. I'll bear it in mind next time.

Cheers!

Strobist is a lot easier to type than off-camera flash tongue out !

I didn't realise it was matt, very nice. I'm considering a couple of 285's to complement my 430ex and random ebay strobe, are they as great as everyone makes out?

Haha smile

They are good, especially for the price however, they'll never be as good as top end portable elinchroms etc etc. They are fully manual though and you can do SLA battery mods which means you can go weeks without having to charge them!

I'd hope not, there's a slight price different between the two setups biggrin

SLA battery mods?

Sealed Lead Acid (I think). Very basic, large sealed batteries which last for weeks. Usually found in kids motorised sit on bikes and RC stuff. You modifiy the AA battery compartment for the 285 and simply plug it in, via a lead, to the SLA battery. I'll post some pics if you like?

What scale is the Tuscan? wink

ETA 5 and 11 are my favourites, 11 particularly. Very nice work as usual. Some of the static bike shots with OCF, although very well executed, are a bit too 'standard' for my liking. By that I mean you could probably do them in your sleep with your experience! Your other shots show more skill and creativity, so I prefer them. I like the high key style too - big thumbs up for trying new stuff, and doing it very well.

Number 8 - I don't think there's enough contrast between bike and background.

What lens are you using for the static shots?

For the static naturally lit shots it was an 80-200 f/2.8 and for the flash lits shots, the 35mm f/2.0 prime.
