GT3 .. Guaranteed future classic.
Discussion
Getting worried that all the plaudits it`s getting steers it into the mainstream.
Now at last its been given the description it deserves from an individual called Kneel Lindon ( Johny Rottens dad?)who writes for the Sunday Bellylaugh.
I won`t go into detail , don`t want to infringe copywrtite etc, suffice to say he slates it, elavating it into the same illustrious company as all previous Porsches that should only be driven on the racetrack and in that company, surely a future classic.

Hopefully a future classis, but with the modern Porsche structure they are making a lot of these cars...Previous Porsche classics, 911Cs-53 rhd cars,993T4 "S" 33 rhd cars & 993RS- 41 rhd cars.
In terms of classics I think the GT3 will always live in the shadow of the 80 rhd GT3 RS models.
Enjoy it now, it's a great car, who cares about classic status?

Hmm, yes, maybe. But if you think of the GT3 as the equivelent of a 1973 Carrera RS 2.7 touring and the GT3 RS as the 1973 Carrera RS 2.7 Lightweight - the lightweight is ultimately more desireable, but the touring is still great none the less and still retains most of the qualities which make the Lightweight great.

Hmmm its a toughie how they will be valued in the future, as currently comparing LHD with LHD already GT3's are pretty much down in the 993RS levels price wise, and RHD GT3's are now under RHD 993RS levels too.
Indeed if you have ya lucky shoes on you can get a GT3 privatly for less than some specialists ask for LHD 964RS's.
I would say Mk1 GT3 will always be worth more than a stock 996 but not in the league of the 993 or '73 RS's-although maybe it will become a bit like the 964 vs 964RS.
As currently a LHD 964RS (non CS) is arguably only worth £10k'ish' more than a stock 964, no way will it ever be in the '73RS's league ie current market is well over double the non RS base '73 2.4 ie seeing LHD tourings at £65k!! (Gmund) and LHD lwts at £85K!! (Autofarm) (ref RHD- if you need to ask you can't afford it, particualy for lwt!! )(makes the chap who I spoke to who picked up a really nice LHD '73 touring for £35k a while back seem like the jammiest sod on earth if either of those sell at that level!
I think GT3 RS will be viewed as future classic, it does however depend on what Porsche follow it up with.

hmmm but if you are looking at '73 examples- just to throw a random element into the equasion- you can get 90% of an '73 RST by getting a 74 2.7 Carrera for one heck of a lot less- I used to say half the price but if a LHD RST is up for £65k whats a RHD worth now? while a sweet RHD '74 2.7 Carrera is in the £15k area!
So perhaps in 30 yrs time the GT3 could be the dirt cheap one & the GT3RS the daft money one???
Hmm dirt cheap GT3's, I do like the sound of that

People ask lots of money for RHD 964 RS, 2.7 RS etc, in reality I think people would rather save the large chunk of cash and plumb for the LHD cars, especially given the fact they are only likely to be used on odd occasions and possibly only for track days. Given the choice between a RHD 993 RS or a LHD GT3 for the same money the GT3 does look very appealing, you`re getting a current car, the one that all the papers, (except it seems Johnny Rotten`s dad) are raving about.
In terms of residual I think the best buy would probably be a bright orange GT3 cup car...... Now where on earth could you find one of those !!
Henry
Technical question. where do all the little people attached to the messages come from ? Other than the ones in the message icon selection panel of course.

I'm with Henry on this one too re lhd. However if buying a GT3 right now I'd be keeping a close eye on the price differential between lhd and rhd and making sure I paid a lot less for an lhd than an rhd.
I'm mildly irritated that the GT3 is being talked up right now as I was watchnig prices move downwards and thinking that it's going to be something of a bargain...especially if the RS is the car to have...so let's all do our bit to talk down the GT3 and then snap them up when they're down to 964RS money.
Actually I think that nice early 3.2 Carreras are the cars to go for right now

Don`t worry too much about the hype at the moment. You need to swamp people with info on how good the cars are. The people who can afford to buy the cars go out and buy them now. The poor people wait until they get bored with their toys and start selling them.
Porsche are very good at limiting supply, they won`t suddenly turn all the production onto GT3`s and swamp the market. What will happen is eventually a new plaything will emerge and the GT3 prices will soften a bit as the cars get owned by the more normal, and slightly tighter, amongst us. They will then settle down to a comfortable price as the 964RS and 993RS have done already.
The whole benefit of LHD is the price, you are quite right to make sure you`re making enough of a saving to warrant the handlebars being on the wrong side.

I'm confused...I think? Are you talking about MK2GT3 as ads I see are suggesting that pricewise approx. RHD993RS = RHDMK1GT3 and LHD993RS = LHDMK1GT3.
Confused me too!! the prices at the mo seem pretty bang on the same for LHD 993RS & LHD GT3(MK1) & the same for RHD- tho the odd tatty high miles LHD 993RS can be found at low money, which does throw the comparison out a bit.
Sorry a little fraudian slip there which I won`t go into or it will open up an altogether larger can of worms. That`s the problem when you`re working too hard the brain and fingers stop talking to each other.
Serves you right for being able to enjoy the luxury of holidays. We simple country folk can`t afford such luxuries. We have to save up for soft toilet paper, speaking of which my little man on the toilet has started working again ! What fun.
