Just bought my first Porker after quite a while of looking on my limited budget.

It's a 1983 LHD SC Coupe in metallic red with about 105K miles. It's had a bit of paint (have any not after 20 years) but it's solid, original & seems pretty honest.

I have most of the German service history & can verify the miles through it.

Anyway here's my questions: 1)I don't know what it's had service wise since coming to UK in Y2K(the oil looks really clean) so is there anything I should check straight away?

2)On cold start up the revs rise & fall for 20 seconds or so then settle...is this normal?

3)It has what look to me like 944 tele dial alloys fitted which going by the rest of the car are probably original...could they be...on a 911?

This car does have a rear wing & chin spoiler but they may have been added.

Get it serviced/checked over/MoTd asap. A good independent will warn you of any problem areas, or reassure you if it's a good one. No one here can tell you without looking at the car. If well cared for it is unlikely to be a pig, but SCs are known for timing chain problems etc., so worth getting it expertly looked at.

The rise/fall of revs affects many 911s, inc 3.2s and 964s. It is relatively normal in my experience.

911s of that vintage could come with teledials, but IMO they look pretty nasty and a good set of cup wheels etc only costs 400 inc rubber second hand. Or fuchs wheels may suit it nicely. Again, there are many for sale if you look in the right places. (Porsche Post - the PCGB mag, 911 and Porsche World, PH classifieds etc.).

Finally, join PCGB as it could get you money off insurance, gives you access to Porsche Post and its classifieds etc. And welcome to Pistonheads.

I agree they look pretty naff, going to look at a set of 17" cup2's tomorrow.

Thanks for the welcome, I will be joining PCGB as I would like to take part in runs, meetings etc.
