Also, over at my site, I am dedicating a page to Australia and putting up my favourite pics so perhaps the best option if you dont want to read and just want to see the best!

All the best for the time being, from a very warm Australia!

Was in Oz for a holiday about 6 years ago, still have an itch to go back and to be honest there are days when I feel like just leaving it all behind and moving there. I know they have their problems too but that climate and lifestyle must make up for an awful lot.

Anyway thanks for teasing me with the pictures wink they remind me of why I loved it so much.

The eagle looks like it's assessing whether you would make a tasty snack.

Good to see you are taking it easy in the first week with not too much going on ....

Thanks for the comments everyone! It really is amazing here, everyone is chilled out and you meet people when you least expect it! Theres definitely something about the scenery here, its strange that pictures don't seem to capture the atmosphere! When your there its just amazing but the pictures lack something!

Sound.

Actually when the family are watching Neighbours and I am within earshot of the sound track I can guess what the on-screen shot looks like from the background sounds they use. Lots of wildlife noises much of the time.

I know what you mean about the shots not quite capturing the atmosphere. I visit a place near Melbourne with, I guess, a similar sort of overall feel to is as your tall trees and wooden walkway. It was tall trees, paths and wooden sculptures. The shots I took back then (a long time ago) gave AN impression of what it was like but not what it was like to be there.

That said it may be down to personal sensitivities. We naturally tend not to pay attention to stuff that the senses tell us are familiar. So perhaps back here in good old Blighty there is much that we are desensitised to the extent that it is just an assumed part of UK photographs when we look at them. A new environment means we look and assess with different eyes - and all the other senses are refreshed too.
