Getting a copy of VAG COM...

Hi folks. Got major issues with the wife's A3 at the minute and jumping through loops with the warranty company. I have VAG COM, but and old version, it's getting expensive at £35 a scan with the local indie. However, warranty company want fault code readings for latter version (VCDS 805.x). I've tried the usual haunts for thiss ort of stuff, has the VCDS stuff reverted to dongle's for authentication again? Can't seem to find an "evaluation" copy for love nor money.
