I have just been handed a piece of paper congratulating and thanking me on 10 years of making weapons of mass destruction used in the procurement of oil smile

It gives me an extra days holiday entitlement which is not to be sniffed at but not exciting.

So, what the coolest or best gift you have been given for slogging it out at a company for extended periods of time?

5 years and got given a red letter day. 4 years later, it's still in the drawer...expired a long time ago.

A guy at my old company who started about 3 months before me got given a choice of some stty golf accessories set (he didn't play golf), a plastic picnic set, complete with plastic mock-wicker basket or a donation on his behalf to some charity thing in the States called the United Way.

He complained so bitterly that when my turn came up 3 months later, the choice was £100 in gift vouchers from Amazon or M&S! hehe

I got a Parker pen with the company logo and 5 year service award on it.

It's quite a nice pen.

In 2 more years I can have an extra 2 days holiday.

Company I work for gives away 5 year and 10 year service awards. The ones from earlier this year got a $1,500 watch for 5 years and 10 year service people got to go to club for free - which is a $2,500 holiday on a remote Pacific Island...

Nice....

Though I suspect that by the time I get to 10 year service the rules might have changed. Shame.

I've got pants that are 10 years old.

What I am saying is I've never worked anywhere for more than two years.

To put it plainly I can't stick at anything.

Got 2 extra days leave after 5 years service and next year (10 years service) receive another 3 days . . . . which is nice.
When my Dad had been with the same company for 25 years he got a radio! Bloody manufacturing industry.

$1,500 watch for only 5 years service! Jeeeez, I'm definately in the wrong business.

I got an e-mail from our CEO when I had put in 5 years service at my (now ex) company.

Congratulations Pothole you’ve worked at XXXXX for over 5 years!
We know that during that time you will have seen XXXXX go from strength to strength. The fact you’ve been here for more than five years means you will undoubtedly have played an important part in our story.

To thank you for your hard work and commitment and recognise that five years represents a significant contribution to our business we are giving you 5 extra days holiday in 2008 - ‘5 for 5’. If you look on (the internal system) you’ll see we’ve already added these days to your annual entitlement (they are in the Holiday section). These days should be taken in this year, at the end of which it’ll revert back to normal. You’ll also be getting a special anniversary jacket which will be delivered to your desk shortly. I hope to see you wearing it with pride.

Well done - and good luck with the next 5 years!

almost 18 months later I got a gillet which had clearly been knocked up by one of those cheap corporate clothing companies and looked to have cost about £5....fking st.

I have to say that I was only annoyed that all the fanfare and bullst wasn't carried through, I did score two lots of relocation money from them adding up to about £16k and a long weekend in Sun City, so it wasn't all bad.

When the company I worked for was still a small start up we got:

1 year: £75 meal voucher
2 years: iPod (top of range one)
3 years: weekend away

I managed to qualify for number 1, sadly we were taken over and I was one of the first not to get the iPod frown

I got an automated email instead from our new firm thanking me for 2 years service. Smack in the face really.

I passed my 10 years in Feb - small company of about 10 when I started, now 25 with sister companies in CA and France.

I got nothing - not even a recognition from the MD that I'd been there that long.

Nice.

irked I had my 20 years in 1999 and got £250 - it's been the same amount forever. 20 years and that's your recognition! Never mind, just clocked my 30 so 10 to go and I'll get £500...which will buy me a gallon of Super Unleaded.

I'm up for 5 years in October. The longest I've ever worked for a company!
A few months ago they decided because of cuts, recession etc. they were binning the gift but keeping the certificate & the extra days holiday. Still got a job so happy!
