They are "highly prized" and are expensive. Over £50 per kilo I would guess and season dependant of course.
You could probably get dried ones at the supermarket.
Buying fresh your best bet would probably be a very upmarket grocers. I've seen them in Harrods and Harvey Nicks I suppose you could call them supermarket!
Or you could join a fungi hunt and find them yourself. Don't think they are in season yet (March/April from memory) but lots of other fungi is in Autuum.

Season is in March. Virtually all the big supermarkets sell them dried but you can find them fresh in some of the London markets when they are in season.
Alternatively, buy a book and go looking for them in the Spring. I've been foraging in the Black Fores in Germany the past month and have found a great deal of steinpliz with cost a small fortune fresh

Hmmm.... Must look at the several hundred grammes of mushrooms the OH just brought back from Finland to see if any are of the expensive variety....
How difficult are they to grow and would they grow in a kitchen?
(no outdoor space)

whether or not it produces more than 100g of the dried stuff is a different matter.
I would be most pissed off if I pay £40 for 100g of rooms that I need to grow myself and that could actually die and I have no comeback... £10 cheaper than buying them is no incentive.

Try Borough Market / Harrod's etc for fresh morels in spring. These will be imported. I'm told morels can occasionally be found wild in the UK, but I never have.
they are locally coomon in the uk! we used to find them growing on the front lawn of an old git near me! I used to go and pick them at night!Gassing Station | Food, Drink & Restaurants | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
