I need to get a couple of extra battries for my D200.

The proper Nikon one is about £55 but on ebay i can get an equivelant that does the whole battery moniter thing for about £10 and seems to be 1800mah as opposed to Nikons 1700mah.
Has anyone tried these battries and are they worth it??

Cheers

Think it might be a question of how brave you are. I bought a spare grey (HK) battery for my D80, worked fine but always showed 100% in the battery icon and then just went suddenly to zero. That wasnt such a problem, as it'd usually be over the course of say 200 shots. The D300 just wont take it at all though, refuses to acknowledge it

Cheers, am going to be using them in a battery grip. Will always have the proper Nikon one as spare.
Might take a chance, mind you just seen Jessops do an own brand for £20.

The same happened using generics in my D200. Fine one moment, then suddenly nothing. Maybe generics have improved since then but as I can't risk the camera dying unexpectedly, I now dutifully bow humbly before Nikon's might and use the proper ones.

Yep.

I bought a cheapo version off eBay for my D2X. Didn't work, sent it back. Got a replacement - works but doesn't last as well as the Nikon. Bought one off 7dayshop (exactly the same!) and it works better than the original Nikon one.

My guess is that the quality control is a little more variable in the generic batteries. But at £17 a pop I could have FIVE of them for ONE original Nikon item.

So I just carry two generics (and my Nikon original).
