What is wrong with facebook FFS!

It sent out a message to all my friends and family saying I am no longer married to my wife.

Obviously some were rather concerned, I also had a number of messages from old female friends from school days and it would appear to be quite a good ploy for anyone looking for a sympathy shaag hehe

You've either been hacked or you don't know what you're doing.

I hadn't even been on facebook when it updated my status and posted a message confused

You're right about me not being familiar with it but is it likely to be down to my ignorance if I had not used it in months?

Just tried from my iPhone & I can't in the iPhone facebook app.

I left my account logged out so i can see if anyone else logs into it.

My password is a very secure one so I doubt it is that to be honest but it's worth changing as soon as I can.

I'll probably deactivate my account as well.

When taking accounts you don't guess the password, you guess the persons email secret answer question and then you can reset passwords for anything else they have associated with that account.

Check the email account you used to register to FB.

This. At least break it to her face to face, rather than via Facebook.

Probably something like your wife messing about in her profile options, choosing greater privacy thus hiding her relationship status, causing FB to automatically update the world with the change.

That would be a very unsecure site, if it sent a reset password to any email address other than the one you originally used to set the account up. You would therefore need to hack the OP's email account to reset the Facebook password.
Unfortunately this is the way most sites since a lot of visitors to sites such as FB don't have more than one real email account, or a proper understanding of web security.

If you know somebody you can get their Hotmail (For example) accounts in just a couple of minutes, people don't think their SQ's through and put silly things like:

Favourite food?
Pizza

A long time ago I got keylogged and lost my Hotmail, Steam, and WoW account because they were all tied with the Hotmail.
