How come we got all the dumb Scots down here? What did the English ever do to deserve this? biggrin

Are there any valid arguements for England retaining 'Right to Buy'?

Surely, it simply allows a few people to make a small fortune for doing nothing and forces the tax payer to pay for replacement stock at market prices?

I know several people who have made nearly £500k in London on the back of this scheme, and frnakly, good luck to them, but I do resent the fact that the council then replaces the property at my expense. Thus the taxpayer is funding a random cash windfall to a few for no real reason or purpose.

Surely the system has to be brought to an end?

Good idea in theory, terrible idea in practice (as per HA's post I also know of people who have bought right to buys in London, only to sell on for a profit ASAP)

Social housing is there to help people who's circumstances mean they may be unable or unsuitable to buy their own, by removing that housing stock all we've done is remove this safety net for a larger number of people (and driven up the costs to the tax payer as these people are then housed by private landlords and paid for by the taxpayer)
