With Forza 3 sat at home waiting for me I guess it is time I invested in a hard drive (I have the arcade system with pitiful storage space).

Anyone on here know

a) how much I will likely need to install and sensibly use Forza 3 including DLC?

b) any good offers on hard drives at the moment?

Cheers

Jimmy

you will need ~1.6Gb for disc 2
& 6GB for disc 1.

Mine is easy on 20Gb drive.

There are 120gb on ebay for ~£40 delivered. Which I think Curry Burns has ordered.

If you just have the standard Arcade unit with no HDD, you won't be able to play the game as you need to install the second disc in order to play.....and it's 1.9 gig

(dam my slow fingers)

ETA - Yes Tim thats the one I've ordered, not arrived yet though.

That's not quite right, you don't 'need' the second disc to play, it includes extra cars and tracks, but you can get by without these.

I think I may have to follow Curry Burns' lead.

I assume you can use the MS data transfer lead to shift data from a 60 to a 120, in the same way as I did when I swapped the 20 for a 60? Does it come with the 120....?

Do I take it then, that Disc 2 (Content) needs to be installed first, and then Disc 1 to play the game? Ideally i'd like to install both to hard disk so it can boot straight from there.

I'm keen to get out of work now so I can go home and play it!

That's what I did Cypher, installed disc 2, then came out of the game and installede the whole thing, as i don't fancy wrecking another Forza disk for extended play!!

No, it's got a specific way of doing things, install disc 1 to your hard drive as normal, then start the game, it will ask you if you want to install disc 2 and then run through doing that by swapping the discs. If you install Disc 2 before it asks you to you'll have to install it all over again as it won't recognise it.

Ah, I see. I did think that might be the case, as it would be strange to have Disc 2 marked as content if it needed to be installed first. Thanks for that, means I won't spend longer at home acting like a tit in order to set the game up. Am going to have to purchase some more MS points later too as I went for the standard version and want the additional cars that come with the LE version!

Not sure what you're intending doing with those MS points as you can't get the extra cars on the marketplace, nor have they confirmed that you will be able to at any point in the future. If you want them then I'd suggest swapping your standard version over to the LE version.

Well, if I'm not able to get the additional cars that are with the LE version, then thats just my hard luck for not buying the LE version in the first place, but nevermind. It won't detract from the game. I only really wanted the DBS anyway. I'll be happy with what i've got!

I`ve had the arcade for over a year & recently aquired a HD. I must say the extra memory & various full replays available after races have been a revelation. I spent a few hours going back through my back catalogue of games just to see what I was missing. Forza 2, Colin Mcrae rallying..(The slow motion Audi S1 up Pikes Peak was sublime...)

Well patience has got the better of me and I have ordered a 120gb one from Ebay (Hong Kong).

BTW FM3 did run with an arcade system, but I obviously can't access any of the disc 2 content and the load times are immense. Plus, using the in car view I cannot drive either smile
