Anyone doing the Tiger Racing ERA Series

I have been sent a brochure on the above, and all looks pretty interesting. Single seater, adequate performance, Hewland gearbox and a fairly sealed formula for not too much money (in racing terms 
)

Unfortunately for Tiger, they put the incorrect postage on the envelope, and I didn't get around to picking it up until I was driving back from paying my Ginetta deposit - so looks like they have missed a potential customer there then, although I think that I'd have gone for the Ginetta anyway. Still, I'll keep an eye on things to see how they go.

The car is about £16k in kit form, but this also gets you your first season of race entries etc (at the moment two tests and eight races).
Having said that, a Ginetta is only £12k, and the first seasons entry fees are £3,500 for 14 rounds, all double headers and mainly at British GT / F3 meets, which does on reflection sound like a better deal.

Where to start.
Race entry fees have gone up this year, due to running at the British F3 / GT meetings. However, the season has also been extended to 14 races, and they are all double headers (which actually represents a big cost saving). Also, in order to keep costs down, testing is banned at each circuit 1 month before the race takes place.
Each weekend consists of:-
- 30 mins free practice
- 30 mins qualifying
- 30 mins first race
- 30 mins second race
so for £500 a pop, it does actually represent pretty good value, bearing in mind the company that you will be keeping.
Also, Ginetta do quite a lot to promote the season, which helps a little with sponsorship. They will be running a couple of celebrity cars again (almost guaranteed some VBH action, Tiff, the ITV-F1 crew etc, plus possibly guest appearances by some surpirsingly high profile types from all walks of life), and there are also two four page articles planned in GQ - sort of a win a race drive type deal.

On top of that lot, you obviously need a car (£10,800 + VAT), some way of transporting it, travel to and from the races and somewhere to stay when you are there (although camping is an option).

I made my decisions based on closing my eyes and jumping in with both feet - there is no other way that I could justify the costs. However, if I'd looked back in ten or twenty years time, without having done it, then it would displace some girl called Jules from University as the number one on my all time list of regrets

hugely jealous!. the ginetta series is one which i would love to do so best of luck to you! close racing and supporting the GT/F3 is a huge boost too. *sulks*
interestingly, in this months kit car magazine another manufacturer have built a sixties inspired single seater called trident if i recall correctly. looked quite nice but a tidy formula ford such as a merlyn or an early lola should only be about 10K and is in reality, the same thing....

Thanks for the good wishes - I've managed to negociate with the GF to postpone moving for three years to fund this little venture, so I intend to enjoy every last second 
.
The hard work is starting now though - sorting transport, preping the car, topping up the coffers with a bit of sponsorship all takes far more time than I have
. Still, worth it in the end though .
