When we first bought our house, the mortgage was with a local building society, who later ran into a bit of trouble (Northern Shock).

When we changed the mortgage, the Rock sent us the deeds to the house, rather than to the new mortgage company.

What should I do with them? Do I put them in the safe? Or a safety deposit box, or lodge them with my bank?

What happens if I loose them?

Quite a lot of mortgage companies send you the deeds now adays. I think ours are either with our solicitor or in a safe place (that I cant recall where it is).

I would suggest the solicitor option but you may have to pay to view/access them

You might well find that the deeds are no longer needed. Any recent property transactions are done electronically with the land registery and so the paper deeds arn't needed anymore. I know my house was done electronically when I bought it (about eight years ago)
