Anyone else letting a few fireworks off tomorrow night or at the weekend?

I'm lighting a few up on Saturday night and am having some friends round for hot dogs, burgers, soup etc. Can't beat it on a chilly winter evening. I must admit that I really like fireworks (childish maybe)!

Anybody on here not a fan of them?

Me ... I detest them...

Possibly due to being hit at a public display years ago as a child and spending a week in hospital as a result frown

They call me lucky!! :-)

No way, where's the fun in watching someone else light them (possibly electronically). smile

You can't beat a good old lighter to light the fuse, then the adrenalin rush as you run away (retire) to a safe distance.

That reminds me, I lit one last year that just exploded instead of going up into the air. That made me jump!

Also, you cannot beat the rivalry with your neighbours. It's always good to have a couple of huge rockets and air bombs to try and defeat the barrage sent up by others. You can tell who bought their fireworks from a supermarket!

Bad luck chap.

The ironic thing is I love fireworks but my fiancee hates them. I was stood at a public display a few years ago (after telling her that we were ok as we were miles away from them) and we nearly got hit by a falling rocket carcass (it hit a tarpaulin tent cover just to her left). Never been hit until I met the missus?!

Set a few off every year for the past 20, must say they get bigger every year gone are the crappy little roman candles that don't do a lot.

Guy Fawkes Night!
Exactly, the best thing aboot Guy Fawkes night was being able to help build the bonfire at the village pub, bunging on loads of tires to help keep it going for weeks, and letting off your own fireworks....nowadays we are penned off from the fire and have to wait around while some chap lights a firework 20 feet away....it's ste compared to what it used to befrown

Happily my home backs directly onto a major royal park that does a huge display every year, we tend to invite family and friends over, do some food etc. watch the display and then (as in this year) dial up Sky Sports for the boxing at 9:30pm, few more drinks and the night is a good un...which is nice!

I shall be igniting a few.

Home-made pasties fresh from oven to accompany.

And beer.

And a trough of red wine.

Ha ha.

I'm actually letting ours off at my parent's house which is more Sleaford way (our house is next to people who own dogs and is a bit too urban!) as they live in a village which generally seems to like its fireworks.

So, eyes Sleaford way please! smile

I personally think people are mugs to spend money on crappy selection boxes full of weak attempts at fireworks and call it a display. Just my 2p.

But then I am less than half a mile from where the big display happens on Saturday and will be able to watch it from my garden for free, arriving just when it starts and not having to battle crowds, traffic and noisy kids to get back through my french doors into a warm house...

I've been banned from fireworks when I'm pissed for exactly this reason. I shoved a rocket into the ground so hard it got stuck (I now know what the plastic tube is forbiggrin). Cue me diving over next door's fence as it exploded in the flowerbedhehe

Its far far far more fun doing your own display.

I agree about not wasting your money on the little selction boxes. If the fireworks minimum saftey distance is less than 25 metres then its not worth bothering with smile

I have around 20 people coming to my house, each happy to chip in 20 quid each for the fireworks so i bought an entire car full of huge ones which you end up having to bury in the ground.

The hardest part is trying to find places still selling charcoal for the barbeque and when you ask around, people look at you as though you are mental.

This is our 5th one is a row, and amazingly so far, no injuries and just one burnt garage after out genius idea of nailing the catherine wheel to the door.

Plenty of places selling coal.
