Will you be shhhhmoking?

If so, check out Barneys Breakfast Bar, good(if a little pricey) food and award winning smokables.

Quite possibly smokin

Is it going to be different now they've banned tobacco smoking?

Depends where you go, my brother was out there 2 months ago, many places didnt care if you mixed your weed/hash with tobacco. All they would not do is sell you pre-rolled joints with tobacco and let you smoke them on the premises.

I see! Won't be doing pre-rolled anywho, heard you'll probably end up sat there dribbling for a few hours, haha!

Apart from the obvious then, what else is recommended? What is the nightlife like, and the unpaid for women? Any worthy museums or anything?

Van Gogh Museum, Anne Franks House(usually massive queues). Get a steak at the Damrak hotel restaurant biggrin

Fair few night clubs about, Melkweg probably being the best known, usually some sort of dance music going on over the weekend.

if you know any ex pats out there get them to sort out some tickets for a club. Most of the good clubs are ticket only to stop the pissed/stoned Brits getting in.
I'm sure someone on PH can help if not find them on google.

It's a different world if you know a local. thumbup

Good call! As it happens I'm hooking up with an old college friend on Monday who's brother lives out there, I shall ask him!

Thanks for the heads up though!

been there a few times.
Getting quite rough nowadays, watch yourself if around the red light at night.

Take the dudes advice in any shop when buying mushrooms, I thought i'd be smart and take the strongest ones, I spent the rest of the night in some sort of 'Jacobs Ladder' type nightmare. Very interesting when you see your teeth fall out onto the floor though.... eek.

Plenty of good places though, just enjoy yourself and stay away from the flag-carrying idiots.

Oh, and the whispering dudes trying to sell you dud pills/coke etc.

A great hostel to stay at is the Flying Pig - Downtown.

I've not been back since they introduced the no tobacco rule - I find that notion utterly hilarious and dearly hope it isn't actually enforced unless for show when/if any inspectors are around.

I didnt have any problems with the tobacco rule, most places were fine. The odd place just gave us herbal replacement tobacco which was crap and didnt burn properly... but generally fine!!

I went there this time last year, as said above listen to the guy if you buy shrooms or you might have a run in with an angry speaking giraffe....

Stay away from the guys trying to sell you "charlie" as alot of them are undercover cops i've heard.

Find a nice coffee shop and watch the world go by from a window, perfect smile

I've heard to stay away from street sellers so will avoid them like the plague! What is legal out there?

Whatever you can buy from coffeshops and "headshops"(mushrooms, salvia etc) is "legal", or to be more accurate, decriminalised.

I have to agree Barney's breakfasts are splendid. Most of the coffee shops are ok if you can handle all the 'ere we go' cretins.

If you want something above and beyond the 'tourist' weed go to Basjoes (on the corner of Ruslaand) and try his house weed...quite marvellous and less than half the price of most. Joe is a top Jamaican dude who looks after his customers and also does great coffee. Also recommend The Rojkeri on Ruslaand as it's only about a 20 yard stagger from Joe's and you can crash out on the multitude of floor cushions and lick the glass coffee table from a recumbent position... as licking the windows involves standing up and thus inevitably falling down.

As for the street sellers, just ignore them...don't even reply with a 'no thanks' as they will attempt eye contact and are quite used to being blanked.

Best 'shroom shop is the one just off Rembrandt Sq. but take heed as that damn giraffe takes no prisoners.

A trip to the Hemp Museum on Damrak is a must, and try out their world famous vaporiser for the most monumental incredible instant mindfk...just try to remember it's not yours and others may want a go too. hehe
