Forza 3 - How do I get 2 player mode?

Just brought an Xbox and I am totally new to these machines. I've got two controllers so how do I get it into 2 player mode. It seems to do it in free play but not the full game. It goes on about X Box gold membership.

All help appreciated.

Career mode is single player only. There is no 2 player mode. Splitscreen is the only way to get 2 people racing on the same box. If you want to race online then you'll need to create an xbox live profile. You probably got a month's free access with the console?

Just to hijack this a little bit, does anyone know how to turn off the bloody annoying music when playing a split-screen game? Easy enough to do it in single player, but the sound menu isn't available when you pause the 2 player game.
