I've recently acquired a sceond hand MS409W sub. I've connected the pre-out from my Onkyo TX-SR705 amp and set it up to recognise the sub etc (in Audyssey and checked manually). There's no sound from the sub, however, unless it's turned up pretty high then it's just distorted. Touching the end of the cable from the input on the sub makes it buzz though...

Is it time I admitted defeat and replaced it or is it worth repairing? Or is there something obvious I'm missing? (most likely)..

I remember there is a funny setting when not using the full 7.1 and the sub. Read the manual again.

First thing is the sub working. Just plug the cd or dvd directly into the sub make sure its turned right down wink

I've read the manual thoroughly. Connect the pre-out to the 'L' input of the sub - that's what it says, that's what I've done... and enabled subwoofer on the amp as well.

Just tried to connect a stereo (iPod dock) up to the inputs - sound comes out but it's distorted like the film soundtracks are. Almost like some notes/tones are clear whereas other aren't like you would get if you turn up a cheap stereo too loud??!!!
