How do I reprogram a dead alarm key fob?

1996 Toyota Paseo Si
Standard fit alarm (Toyota logo).
One of the fob batteries went flat. When I opened it it said to change the battery within 10 mins or the code changes. I did it within the time but it now doesent work, I guess it went too flat.
I used to have a contact at Toyota (via my dad) who once told us the long winded technique for re-coding the fob. Apparently you "hold it close to a certain area and with the door open press the button blah blah blah". Some complicated sequence that we have forgotten!
Toyota quote too much money to sort the problem. Can anyone here help by supplying me the details for reprogramming my fob?
We still have one working fob, but I dont like the risk if this goes wrong/breaks.

Im pretty sure that you can reprogram it by simply pressing the lock/unlock buttons for a few moments while in the area of the door.
If i were you, id press the lock, then unlock and then repeat it.
These fobs work on a "rolling" code, so it requires re phasing.
Just stand out by the car door and keep lock/unlocking with the buttons.
It should eventually re phase.
(hopefully)

If not then try getting into the car with the ignition on and doing the same thing.

I reckon one of these ideas will work.

I don't know. I've found Mr T's customer care to be excellent.

That reminds me. Mr E a long time ago you asked me for the number of that Toyota specialist my bro and I used to use. Well, I cant find it and he doesnt know either since he now has a new 200SX.

Anyway, I'll check the Paseo manual but I think its gonna say "go to dealer, do not pass go, do not collect £200".

No rush mate. I now have not one but two tame mechanics.

One runs a modified MR2 turbo. The other runs a Chevvy Camero. It's a rocket ship in a straight line. When you get to a corner, it's usually better to get out and flag down a car already going the way you want.

It was the 4 figure quote for a cluth that put me off....

....only been back since for an oil filter....

They quoted you 4 figures for a clutch change?

Ive done 4 of em!

Had them out in the garage, engine and box together!
Its a two day job tho and pretty awkward....i should go into business!!

Mmm. My tame mechanic (Camero) guy has done a couple. He's quoting a lot less than that. So I'll suppy a fensport stage one clutch and a lighter flywheel, and give him some case.

Seriously mate - there's a few peeps over at GT4OC who would happily pay for your services....

Just as an aside from the clutch and gearbox stuff, if you ever do go to have the clutch done, get the cambelt done at the same time...its sooooo much easier when the whole thing is out!
(have done one IN the car tho...never again!)

Yeah. My guy said he'd rather do a clutch than a cambelt.

Something about trying to locate a spring that you can't see. It takes 30 seconds or all day.....
