I think Gmail will let you do this, though you have to specify the addresses you want to use and I believe it always appears as "Joe Bloggs @ Gmail On Behalf of Joe Bloggs @ yourdomain.com", could be mistaken though.
Gradwell offer a traditional SMTP relay account as well, also APM Mailcore offer it as part of their email service but I don't know if you can use it with any "from" address you care to use.

Correct. When setting it up Google will send an email to the accounts you want to send from, you'll have to log into those accounts and click the activation link before Google will let you send mail from those addresses. And yes, they use a field to indicate that it's being sent via the gmail account - whether this appears at the other end at all depends on what email client they use.I have gmail, and I have all my accounts added in to it. I can send from them via the webmail interface, but when I send from an email client using their smtp then it sends as my @gmail.com address. Are you sure you can do it with their smtp servers, and if so, what settings do i need to change?

Hmm..Note for IMAP/POP users: If you access Gmail through a POP or IMAP email client (e.g. Outlook) and would like to send messages with a custom "from" address, you have two options. We recommend that you configure your email client with two outgoing SMTP servers, one for Gmail and one for your other address. Your second option is to use Gmail's outbound servers with a different "from" address. If you've already configured the custom from address in the web interface, your message will be sent fromtheraddress@domain.com, sender:username@gmail.com, regardless of which custom from configuration you chose. Your messages will be sent from your regular Gmail address if you never configured your custom from settings in the web interface.
OK I have found the problem - you can indeed use gmail for this. In my gmail account I had the email addresses with a capital first letter, which meant that when I was sending using a from address without the capital, google didn't like it and they came through from gmail.com accounts. Now that I've fixed that it all works.
thanks
