Having read the review - pretty tempted - looks fantastic.

What dealers would those in the know (i.e. you guys) recommend in the "South"?

Is it relatively cheap to upgrade the bhp?

Buster,

I know Bell and colville (www.bell-colvill.co.uk) have a very god rep - always been good when Ive talked to em anyway.

You can get to around 150bhp, 144lbft for about 1000....

cheers

I purchased my secondhand Elise from Frosts Lotus down in Shoreham. They've been nothing but helpful and sorted out a couple of niggles very quickly. Their website is :-

Portfield Sports Cars in Chichester seem good. I got mine from them. Their pre-delivery inspection was a joke, (no horn, loose seats, tyres wrong way round, alcantara trim coming away). They did however rectify things swiftly. I will be returning my car to them in the near future, due to the fixings for the alcantara trim being broken, and the drivers seat squeaking like a plague of rats in choir practice.

Tip: Do NOT buy a Racetech with the god awful alcantara trim.

I know that the Elise 120 is only good for about another 2 HP without serious rework. Therefore it can't be chipped. You should forget about Turbo Technics too. The conversion will lead to engine failure.

I am looking at the TT conversion - what reports do you have regarding engine failure?

I dont like to disagree with people much, but that's entirely wrong. The only real weakness of the K-series is an under-enginered bottom end, and crappy thin plenums. The issue with the TT conversaion (potentially) is the steep increase in BMEP (same with nitrous or S/C)...which will lead to all sorts of bits potentially breaking. However...Im sure that TT know this, and likely sort that out.

With very little re-work you can comfortably (and reliably) get 150bhp, 140+ lbft from the K-series. A decent induction/exhaust kit, polished cylinders and slightly larger valves would get nearby...

after that gas flowed head, new cam etc...VHPD head...can apparently get to near 200bhp

The cost for the first bit is around a grand.....the lotus upgrades are VERY expensive if you ask me

No, I am not wrong. Everything you have mentioned is pretty much serious rework.

The bottom end is good for a some more HP, but you need to be careful with these modifications. You didn't mention uprating pistons, for example. Why does the 156HP K-series have different pistons to the 120HP version? Pistons are usually the first things people forget to uprate when modifing their engines.

Even small modifications can totally wreck durability. This applies to pretty much all engines. All the same, any upgrades (e.g. 135) coming from Hethel will be validated.

You summed TT up correctly, though. The cylinder pressure is too high.

Be very careful also with K&N filters as they are not so good at keeping water out of the clean air side of the induction system. This can cause the engine to hydraulic.
