I heard that the 997 is out towards the end of this year followed by a 997s

I saw a 996 aniversary model with 355bhp I think and understand that the 997 will be 330bhp with the 997s 355 bhp

anyone heard the same?

Details are very thin on the ground,

infact I even heard (ta elms) that the Porsche dealers were pointing those interested in the 997, to MY 997 website, for pics... as it was more info than THEY had to hand!

4Car interesting rumours about eight cylinder in top end 997, but flat eight rather than Cayenne's V8:

Don't really like the recent 997 pics (in case anyone's interested in my opinion ). Looks to me like a stretched VW Beetle (how design goes full circle!).

To be honest, the 996 with it's headlights covered to look a bit 993ish (with those aftermarket template thingys) looks a lot better than the 997.

Just MHO, which people of taste will no doubt agree with.

I wish I took notes as it was nice chat with a head guy from Porsche GB (deveolpment director I think)at an offical opening of the Burgess Hill dealership last week. - very smart do. anyone else here go?

I also asked about a tv in the sat nav system (as a BMW I had had one and was the best part of the car) but he had been trying to get Porsche (Germany) to put it in as there is a demand for uk customers but Germany refuse to do so.

I have heard from a very authorotive source that they have a number already built, this person has been to germany, and actually seen a few late development/first customer versions at the factory, and before you ask, yes he works at Porsche Reading, and no, i can't reveal his name.

They have been building 997s for ages, most cars are produced for up to 2 years before final release, to sort out all the production details and specs.

When I was touring the Porsche Factory last year, we were ushered away from the normal tour route and off the production line because a 'special' was coming through the line that we weren't allowed to see, that was almost certainly a pre-production 997.

Heard a rumour from the Silverstone OPC today that there will be no back seats in any 911

I find this hard to believe, but I will be reclaiming my bag of sand from Reading OPC if true!

Any knowledge out there

I'd ignore that speculation, sounds financial suicide to me.

Is it?

How many times do the rears seats honestly get used in the cars?

Mine have been used 1 or twice. It would be interesting to see if this is truly the case, maybe a spec option to remove the seats rather than automatic though.

100% the rears are not going to be removed.

Thats the only reason it made the car viable for me - either for our little dog, more luggage space for a 3rd person on short trips.

no rear seats = no more superlightr in a porsche - just not practical enough.

Are porsche trying to move those that buy the 911 with practicality in mind over to their upcomin 4 door saloon? Removing the rear seats would surely do that to some extent. Its all rumoour anyway, the test mules might not have rear seats etc but that isnt a problem if the mule wasnt intended to test that feature.

Me too! But don`t forget those rumours about a full four-seater saloon (M5 beater) If they intend to offer that as an alternative in the model range, two folding bum rests in the rear of a 911 become less important!

The marketing logic being...Customer wants to carry more that one passenger frequently...They should plug the gap with another full four-seater!

Hey, they built the Cayenne for this reason!

Surely all REAL 911 only have 2 seats anyway?

Superlight

How do you know 100% - do you have some official info?

My reasons are for the odd trip with my small children.

If these are not in then my Boxster will be gone, but no 911. WTF do I buy then?

The fact that you can get a couple of little seats around the configuration of a 911 is precisely the reason that it has managed to stay in production for 40 years.
I have read this a few times over the years by Porsche board members.
If they were to remove the rear seats in a 997 cabriolet the car would simply cease to exist in comparison as an expensive bloated boxster S.

The Mr Porsche guy I spoke to said that the rear seats was not on the cards to be removed in the immediate/near future if at all.
