Changing battery the other day and after I'd hoiked the old battery out found a transparent silicone tube hanging free from behind headlight assembly. (near the gubbins you use to alter the beam for lhd).

Assumed I'd disconected washer bottle hose from headlights as the washe bottle is on that side (there wasn't a corresponding tube on the driver's side). Couldn't for the life of me find where to fit it back on to.

Owners manual no help. Any ideas anyone before I fill my bonnet with water next time I wash the headlights.

Either part of the system for levelling the headlights or the overflow tube from a Porsche battery stuffed in the wrong place???

my old 964 has a plastic tube like the one you describe hwich attatcehd to the side of the porsche battery, not sure if it vented fumes or condensation but it vented something. The 993's may or may not have them now but most importantly if the battery you removed was anything other than the original one it may well not have had this odd feature.

I would be prerared to bet almost £1 this is it

Yes it's a venting tube for the battery.

Indeed it undoubtably is, however are you are sure as james s & willing to bet 'almost' whole pound on your statement

Personally I might go as high as £1.02p PLUS a packet of old but still edible Spangles

Wow I remember Spangles - whatever happened to them?

I once ate an entire packet and stuffed all the little wrappers up my nose (no I don't know why) then spent an enjoyable afternoon at Casualty having them pulled out again

May I respectfully remind Iguana this is a mororing site, not a haven of gambling. I reaslie I may be in some small way to blame by suggesting a small bet of almost £1, but he has rather taken thinkgs to extremes.

Talk of £1.02 plus dubious commestables holds no sway round here

Bugger

I took another look last night and thought,

'I bet that's a vent for the battery'

Pity I didn't promise myself something nice.

I guess I'll have to check the new battery to see if I can stick it in somewher or just let it hang. fnarr fnarr

Thanks Guys

The battery vent pipe is not silicone, usually semi-rigid clear pvc or similar. I think you have found the headlight breather pipe that goes from the headlight plug down to the lower underspoiler, pushes onto a reverse-scoop plastic thingy that is clipped into the underspoiler just in front of the trailing edge, in line with the wheel.

That will be £1.02, please.....

Oi 9monkey, thats not how the game is played with "I think" & no firm bet! anyway its not just my £1.02p (and the spangles) you would win 'IF' you are correct, you would also be entitled to james s almost £1!!

So how about if you are correct to save you frittering away your winnings on candyfloss & donkey rides at Blackpool, james & I club together & we just buy you a nice new little house in Warrington- surely worth about the same

Sorry 9m I don't know my silicone from my PVC. It's a clear plastic pipe and only emerges to the rear of the left light assy above the battery slot.

Presumably Colin meant 'scran', a word for food used beyond Watford Gap services. Or maybe scram is a new word peculiar to Warrington?
