offcial figures from the Ministry of Defence show that, allowing for inflation, its budget fell in five years: 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2002 and 2007.

Honest mistake or cynically calculated "Chilcot Inquiry will be the headline on every paper and news channel, if I admit to a mistake two weeks later it will probably get much less coverage"?

since they are arguing over "real terms" and calculating an increase to allow for inflation, doesn't that a) mean the values were pretty close) and b) could still mean that the total amount spent could still rise each year.

He was not the only one peddling this lie, our esteemed furry eyebrowed Chancellor came up with this line a few Sundays back on the Andrew Marr show. Seems the government and chancellor are not familiar with the concept of inflation..... wait till we all start feeling the effects of their profligacy with the money printing machine. Inflation is coming and it is not going to be pretty.

Ironically, he didn't. Brown was in Number 10 all along.

All for the media, justified as "Number 11 is bigger" on the very rare occasions that it got a mention.

Has he blamed the Tories before 97 yet?

Bet this has been spinning around in No 10 for the best way to let it out for years.

"Amend his evidence" rolleyes
FFS . . . I cannot believe anybody, legally, is able to get away with this. What? I just remembered something else . . . after all this time, err, when pressured?
"Amending" original testimony surely obfuscates anything you've already testified?
Weapons grade dhead. Sooner he's gone the better.

That filthy mendacious one-eyed scumbucket needs to be flown one-way back to Afghanistan, taken to Sangin, Musa Qala or some such location and made to walk, without the benefit of body-armour, vehicle or helicopter, around the village until he does the most useful thing of his life and triggers an IED that will hopefully mangle his body, leaving him with enough bodily faculites (including his one good eye) to then go and be passed thru the medical chain, to Selly Oak where he can lie in his own p1ss and st for days on end 'cos the doctors and nurses are too busy chasing targets and trying to work his Governments idiot NHS computer system.

With him can go every scumbag Labour MP who's spent years feathering his nest, buying votes with benefits and other means and neglecting defence (they haave always struggled to find people to fill teh defence posts - they had to even turn to the fat useless turncoat Tory Quentin Davies to fill one of the posts). The Tories and Lib Dems can volunteer a few for their utterly feeble, disgraceful lack of opposition (these defence budget figures and official inflation figures have been available for years). Then the scumbag journos who spent years w@nking off at the thought of catching Bliar out on WMDs and giving little traitors like Galloway ample airtime while British soldiers have been killed and dismembered needlessly, the Paxmans, Humphreys et al - they can go along sans body armour for spending more time trying to catch out Tory politicians and giving the rest of the Labour filth an easy ride.

By then we'll hopefully exhaust the Taliban's supply of explosive (provided the idiots at DFID stop giving out fertiliser that gets used for IEDs) and the boys can come home and sort out the bigger problems we're going to face which will be serious social unrest when someone actually has to try and fix this thoroughly broken, utterly scr3w3d country.
