When you switch off the wipers on a 78 SC Targa are they supposed to stop where they are or park at the bottom of the screen? ie, do I have a duff wiper motor?

My son has offered me a set of 17" OE cup alloys from his 964 Turbo (7.5" front and 9" rear). Will they fit my 78 SC with spacers? Do I have to get the tin snips out to take the edge off the inner side of the wings? Sorry if this has been covered before, went back 30 pages and couldn't find an answer.

Hi Grant. I'm not sure how relevant this info will be to your 911, but when I first got my 944 the wipers did not self park. The fault was not the wiper motor itself, but a relay which controlled the intermittent wiper speed. As I said, I dont know whether this will help much, but may be worth looking into before splashing out on a new wiper motor which may not be the problem.

Spacers around 29mm or 32mm will have those wheels fitting your SC nicely, but do not fit bigger tyres than 205/50 or 215/45 on the front with 245/40 or 255/40 rears.
The SC does not have a park relay, it is powered by the switch and through the wiper motor contactor, first job is to check for permanent live feed to the park function of the motor, maybe just a problem with a fuse?

Thanks for that 9M. I take it I need to fit the spacers front and back and don't need to "roll" the wing edge (original wings), or is it spacers on the rear only.

The rear wiper didn't park on my SC and it turned out to be a jammed pin in the motor which was supposed to move the parking switch contacts. You may have a similar prob - it just needed a clean.

Thanks Danny, I'll get round to trying these fixes once I've put my son's 964 turbo engine back in and can get my garage back!! It's too bl###y cold to work outside at the moment.

Yes, spacers required front and rear, may need to roll arches depending on the ride height and geometry.
