Window detached!

I haven't used the Elise for a while and when I tried to wind the window down there was a nasty bang and the glass came loose.

I've had the door trim off and the 3 plastic clips that are bonded to the glass have come unstuck.

Anyone had any luck re glueing them with windscreen bonding stuff or something?

Also If I can glue them back on any tips on re fitting the window glass?

The dealer wants £100 for a new side window plus an hour and a half to fit it...help!!

Unfortunately this happened to me after I had owned my car for only a month. Apparently this is not unheard of and my garage blamed it on the glue, they use better glue now allegedly, used to bond the window to the winding mechanism?!

Maybe it might be worth getting the new window and fitting it yourself, it shouldn't be that difficult.

Top tip....never ever try and do any work inside the doors of your Elise.

Firstly it's like trying to paper your hall through the letterbox so unless you're a gynacologist forget it.

Secondly the mouldings and metalwork are all razor sharp and sort of roughly fit together with a lot of bodging and you'll end up with cuts and grazes filled with fibreglass.

Thirdly you'll be astonished at the rough and ready bodge job going on inside, more spacer washers than you can shake a stick at.

You guessed it, it didn't go well.

This happened to me and Pit Lane Garage in Manchester rebonded the old window for £40. It works fine now. Also make sure you oil the runners for the windows regularly so that they don't stick in the future.
