Yesterday morning I missed the post man by about 30 seconds but it was too late, hed already left. Found the standard little piece of card with 'we tried to deliver to you today at :. Please come to the sorting office to collect within the next 7 days' or whatever. So I waited 4 hours like it says on the piece of card went to the post office to be told something about how the post man had left it in his van because it was so small and didnt see it and then was assured it would be delivered today. They also took my phone number and promised to call and let me know what the deal was. So today no parcel, no phone call (other letters and such have arrived). So back to the post office I go, get to the post office and the guy tells me he hasnt got any idea where the parcel is, phoned the driver and he said he brought it back to the office. So, no one has any idea where it is, and I have no card as proof anymore as the woman from the post office took it off me to put my phone number on.

What can I do? Can I get them to pay for the lost item?

Im mostly annoyed about all the promises and such that have been broken, also the package is a birthday present for someone which has now passed. Also I've had to take several hours off from work to go back and forth to the post office which is quite annoying aswell not to mention fuel spent going from work to the post office / home to the post office. By far cancelling out the savings made by buying online, its now cost me more than it would have done to go and buy the item in a shop....

Cheers.

Sticks.

I had alomst exactly the same thing happen. There is a number to ring to put the compensation scheme in place. They'll ask for proof of postage though, so if you bought it from fleabay, say, see if you can get hold of it. I couldn't, so a copy of the card they'd dropped me was enough in the end.

Yes, the faffing was annoying.

had something similar was browsing the PO website and noted that my parcel had already been signed for, stormed down to the PO and it transpires that the new graduate had processed all the parcels as signed for in his van, so as to give him an easy day, instead I think he got the boot

I'd ask for that back if at all possible. You'll need the number on it, at least.

Contact the sender. It's their responsibility until it's delivered to you.

Assuming it's a mail order purchase and on a special delivery service, they'll be able to claim back £150 of the value (not your problem though) and they should despatch a replacement fairly sharpish.

Forgot to say, why not speak to the delivery office manager and try to persuade him to have a look in the van, just in case it's still kicking about in there.
