Well here we go again, cerbera went in for a service, having only covered 4000 miles since the last engine rebuild.

The garage, then told me that the valve followers have gone again, phoned TVR, half way through the registration details the service manager completed them, he expected it to be back soon as it turns out that they had been given a dodgy batch of followers last time round, and had just started to realise which cars have had them fitted, of which mine is one.

Not entirely happy as you can imagine, as this is my only car, and I am booked in for 'back home' in 6 weeks, reading through other threads it's going to be more than that before I get my car back.

Wife happy though cause the loan car for the last couple of days has been a Honda estate and I have been able to get rid of some things down the tip etc!!!!!

That's a sod Martin, I remember you getting it back last time.

Presumably you don't have to pay for any of it this time round (don't know whether you had to last time round).

Mycerbera reckons his is coming back from Blackpool post-rebuild and 200mph speedo in a few weeks, so maybe there's hope for yours for Back Home after all.

Thanks Mikey, no coast to me, the good thing about it going away is that when it comes back again it is a real pleasure.

Martin,

Thats bad news, I've covered about 1200 miles since my rebuild at xmas and am paranoid about it going wrong again. I think your car was done at xmas too wasn't it? Any more info about these valve followers?

Tried to ask TVR for a report about the work they had done on my engine...their response..."we don't have enough man-power to provide reports "!

Wrote 4 letters asking them to sort it out, after no replies called and they denied receiving any of the letters. E-mailed the letters instead, got a response back saying that they had received them and now they've ignored me yet again !

They make my blood boil !

What were the symptoms with the engine.... loss of power, jerky acceleration etc??

Bandit,

Yes it was at xmas time, I got it back on the 1st Feb.

where to start.......

The problems with the engine were not so much loss of power but a lack of acceleration. The engine began pinking, i.e. the fumes out the back smelled funny, sort of toxic paint smell. Also it started to run rough, up until it went it would sit there and purrrr, then it started to sound sort of lumpy. this was about 100 miles before it went in for its service. then at about 50 miles I thought it sounded like the tappets, i.e. a little tinkly sound.

The thing that annoys me is that they new the followers were dodgy, why did they not just call me back, it would have saved all this hassle.

Hope yours is ok, they tell me it is only on a handfull of cars!

Cheers Martin,

I'll keep an eye out for the symptoms and see if my dealer can find anything more out about this.

Hope you get your car sorted soon...at least you'll have it back for the summer months !

Bandit.

Martin - have they finished contacting all the other owners who may have had them? Mine was rebuilt around that time and maybe I'm being paranoid too (still running it in) but seems like it's misfiring.

Martin,

I take it your cars under warranty at the moment. Are you going to risk keeping it when the warranty runs out?

Danny IT, As far as I am aware they have but you may wish to email them to find out.

Roadrunner, yes I am going to keep it even after the warranty runs out depending on how it runs up until then. I love the car to 'bits' not literally, but if they sort it this time like I expect them too then there is no reason why I shouldn't. I also have it in writing that every engine rebuild comes with a 12 month warranty, as long as the car is serviced regularly by main dealer, so it is worth the extra expense.

I hope everyone elses car is ok though.

Martin,

Are you sure about the engine rebuild -> 12 month warranty thing? I can't even get TVR to tell me what they actually did to my engine, I certainly didn't get any confirmation that I would have an extra 12 months warranty from them.

Did you have to ask them for this or did they send it to you after they returned your car?

Cheers

Bandit,

No the engine problems were detailed on the green screen at my local dealers, as well as the 12 month extension to the engine warranty, they printed it out for me.

My dealer has admitted that they have no idea what TVR have done to my engine and they haven't been able to find out either.

I did ask them about the extra warranty and they said, as far as they knew, no extra cover had been given.

TVR.....nice cars guys but SORT IT OUT !!

You have the organisational skills of a tin of beans and must educate your customer services guys at the Saddam Hussain school of people management.
Grrr !

Right, I've stopped my whinging now, I'm off out to lunch in my rental car cause my Cerberas off the road again !

Sorry, paranoia! I made a bit of an assumption back there that you'd had your V8 rebuilt - didn't realise it was the S6 with the well known problems - finger followers and valves.

Good luck,

danny

PS With the V8 at least, they're generally quite happy to give you the build/parts reports - probably a lot more cagey with the S6 for a while yet
