Anyone going?

This will be my first track day for a couple of years and my first at Bedford so looking forward to it.

One thing I did notice was a static noise test of 101db but a drive by at 85db, is it something to worry about if it passes the static?

I'm going. My first track day in my R300 so extra anxious about the noise test, as well as not feeling properly attuned to the car as yet.

Apparently you can quite often pass the static test but get kicked off on drive by. Have you noticed that Easytrack do a noise insurance, whereby if you pass the static but fail the first drive by (note first) you get a 75% credit note?

I don't fully understand the difference between the two, surely a noise limit is set, in this instance at 101db static and thats it, how can there then be an 85db drive by? Is it on a certain part of the track, where maybe lower revs are used or is it at full throttle down a straight? Perhaps the distance from the car makes a difference?

A car that passes the Static test at 100db is going to be making 100db when moving at the same revs, is that not right?

My car with its previous exhaust was 102db and with the new exhaust is a lot quieter so I am fairly confident it will pass.

the static test is conducted right at the car at abour 4000-4500 rpm. The current formula employed by MSV equates that 101dB static value to the required 85dB drive by at their calculated distance...
It's usually pretty accurate, unless your car is a serious shout louder at full chat/under load than with a static rev.

Depends how brave you are - I still have a bit of a tendency to hit the throttle as well when I go for the brake

No, that's not right. The car will be significantly quieter on drive by, however, there is no guarentee that it will be quiet enough.

You hear of more people failing drive by noise tests at track days than static ones. Some places will give you a warning and others are more draconian. There are several posts here about the location of drive by noise meters at various circuits. To be honest, I'm that busy trying to stay pointing the right direction to worry about short shifting or lifting near the noise meters.

See you there. We'll be in R300 GRR - orange R300d, black stripes, lion and tiger!
BTW, there's a wiki page for this as I found out when I asked the same question about a week ago wink

You were at Bedford last time I was there, running your car in - I had a chat to you about being in the market for an R300 - and then went off and bought an orange one too - but mine's an old K series.

It will be good to see you all there on Monday! And hopefully get a passenger ride or two to see how its done!

The passenger seat in my 968 will be available, and any advice on how to get around the track will be much appreciated smile

In all seriousness I want the first half of the day to get settled into the car - but later happy to have passengers - as long as reciprocated (and if I fail the noise test then defintely will be looking for rides!)

I'll be there also, first time at Bedford so not sure how the car will manage. It looks a quick circuit and as I'm using my partners Fiesta I'm hoping it wont be a mobile cicance to you guys in quick cars!
I'm going to slap a couple of PistonHeads stickers in place of the number plates so I should be easy to spot at least! smile

Just a quick one, not sure I have seen the answer in the information/Intro pack (although not read it fully yet!).

I've been watching a few vids on Youtube and noticed alot of drivers wearing short sleeves, is this acceptable? All previous trackdays I have been on have required arms to be covered, whats the answer?

See you all monday,

Tom

Officially the answer is long sleeves but like you don't remember anyone being kicked off for short. Will be a hot one tomorrow so tempting. Don't forget the suncream!
