The oem shimano chain has done really well and lasted 6 months. So it has to be a 9 speed for hard use in sandy and muddy environments on an XTR groupset attached to an orange 5.

+1 for Connex Wipperman chains. Had mine on for ages now and it's still like new and is in a rather snazzy red colour (that hasn't worn off).

sram 991. anything but shimano - had 3 break on me - chains. 6 months and how many miles?

I'm using a SRAM 991 hollowpin on Deore XT drivetrain, runs really smooth and is light too - time will tell if its strong or not but im not a heavy rider smile

I had the 991 normal version prior to this and I think the hollowpin version is smoother as the pins do not protrude as much.

Both are a lot better than the standard 9sp shimano HG that came with the bike and the power links are cheap to replace and very handy.
