Hi,

Is there a legal requirement for kit in company cars? I have two pool cars under my control. Neither have first aid kits, or hi-viz jackets/waistcoats.

I am going to get them put into the cars. But are there any legal requirements for this - or other kit?

Cheers

A no smoking sign is required beyond that no legal requirement for first aid kit (driver trained to use it?) etc.

Personally, I carry a triangle and first aid pack in the boot and a torch and hi-viz jacket under my seat.

Cheers for that. Going to get the stuff anyway as a belt and braces.thing.

The title is fine thanks. I was asking about Hi Viz jackets and the like. Not Just first aid it. Not that it matters.

That's a long list. I'll try and get the lot out of the company.

Just want to look after my people. Even if its not a legal requirement.

If you want to stuff the company more how about suggesting a course on how to change a tyre, or check the oil.

Lidl will shortly have a car first aid kit (£4.99) Hi-Viz vest (£1.99) from 3rd June.
No doubt they will have the triangle, and torches before long, and you should treat yourself to a bottle of their champagne for saving your company some dosh!

Some health & safety people are pushing for spare wheels to be taken out of cars (which is happening anyway, of course) so drivers can't hurt themselves changing the wheel. It's standard practice to call a breakdown company to change wheels on a motorway.

if the vehicles are used on works time a class 3 hi vis may be a requirement as appropriate PPE should the vehicles have to leave the vehicle while on fast roads ...

as a semi -related issue , an issue arose with a volunteer organisation when the senior clinical and fleet management volunteers fell out with those holding the purse strigns about the need for people who work from vehicles needing class 3 hi vis - but given the role may require stopping on fast roads ...

PUWER all ready requires this ...

the fundamental issue with changing wheels is torquing the wheel nuts/ studs correctly - especially as car manufacturers decline to provide a torque wrench ...

this is aside from the issues with 'scene protection' for changing a wheel ...

Take the spare out and you'll be getting big bills from the breakdown recovery companies as their exclusions only include vehicles that come as standard without a spare wheel,

With my company car, the leasing company has provided a first aid kit, high vis jacket and a warning triangle in a nice little bag.
